Well.... since we had a thread on the most famous climbs and races. I thought it was time to discuss which are the most famous and our favorite hills.

I voted for the Oude Kwaremont. First of all, it's got a nice name. Especially if you try to pronounce the 'mont' french, like Jose de Cauwer always does, with Wuyts constantly trying to correct him. It's uncharacteristically long for a Flemmish climb, over 2 km.

It starts on tarmac, a small road, quite steep already. Then you get the cobbles, quite steep in the beginning untill Kwaremontplein. After that, the climb levels off, but it goes on a long time. Because of the small road and the length of the climb, it's perfect for making decimating a peloton. I like it the most if they do the descend on the big highway afterwards (like in KBK or E3), guarantees fantastic images of all these small groups going all out in the descend.

.

hehe :p it's quite funny :p

But the kwaremont is a difficult Berg, ypou start with the steep stuff, but problem is after that you got another km of less steep climbing on ****ty cobbles

Also voted Kwaremont. I really love to ride that hill. It seems to never end...

Koppenberg & Muur are something special too, of course, and my favourite climb here might be de Molenberg or the combination Haaghoek/Leberg....

You're training often in the 'Vlaamse Ardennen?'

I mostly do Kluisberg, cote de trieu, Oude Kwaremont, Patersberg (depending on the length of the ride also Kruisberg and Hotond or Koppenberg) and then Tiegemberg

I live the other side of the vlaamse ardennen :D

One of my favorite courses is: Lange Munte - Schelde to Oudenaarde - Wolvenberg- Kergate/Holleweg - Varent - Haaghoek - Leberg - Berendries - Paddenhoek - Lippenhove
Makes about 85 km ...

Other hills I frequently do are Molenberg, Volkegemberg and Boigneberg.

Oude Kwaremont, Patersberg, Koppenberg, Kluisberg, Muur, Bosberg, I really like, but are a bit too far to do on a regular tour. (And right now i'm studying, so no time for long rides)

where's Willunga Hill? :D

would have to be the Muur-Kapelmuur for me - was special to ride it and be on it for RvV. Amazing atmosphere on both occasions.

This.

I agree that the Oude Kwaremont is harder in some ways, and the Koppenberg obviously is too, but the Muur is - well, the Muur.
The ride up to the chapel is the highlight of the cycling year for me.

Maybe if they change the finish to Ronse (I hope they don't), the Oude Kwaremont will have the same epic status in 30 years.

Kapelmuur definitely the most famous, more based on its placing in the race than actual toughness compared to other bergs in RvV. But why is Mende twice and Huy or Montelupone are missing? And last but not least, at less than 4km long Xorret de Catí qualifies as a hill and makes them all bite the dust.

Rein Taaramae approves this post.

That being said, the Cati is too long and too tough to qualify as a hill in my opinion.

Also i would consider San Luca, with the Portico on the side of the road the scenary is marvelous, and given that it is in Bologna a lot of people can watch that, moreover the giro dell'emilia is a very entertaining race; too bad that rai often doesn't do a live coverage. I also would like to see it again in the Giro

I voted for the Poggio, but could have voted for the Madonna Del Ghisallo under "Other."

Obviously not the most famous, but my favorite.
