Mountains Used In The Grand Tours

No Grossglockner or Etna there.

I think Etna 1 is Rifugio Citelli and Etna 2 is Rifugio Sapienza. Grossglockner is there as Kasereck.

Just look at that and think how hard these three consecutive days will be.

Iselberg Pass -> Grossglockner

Crostis -> Zoncolan

Piancavallo -> Cibiana -> Giau -> Fedaia -> Gardeccia

It's probably too much.

Col d'Agnes and Hourquette d'Ancizan look like nice climbs in the Pyrenees... Agnes before Plateau de Beille and Ancizan before Tourmalet -> Luz Ardiden.

Yea, theres gonna be some serious slaughter in the GC there. Especially the stage over the Fedaia and ending on Val di Fassa (if thats the correct name) is brutal, no other words. Its kind of inhumane, but so much fun to watch.

I just discovered this article. It provides info on many of the mountains used in the Giro, TDF and Vuelta.
There are a number ofl threads here that discuss real and hypothetical race routes and climbs. A brief search results in the following:

for those who rode the Cols in France, I need your advice;
Hard Climbs That Have Never Featured in a GT;
How Often Should Mythical Climbs be Used in Grand Tours?;
Climb Difficulty Database Started: Ideas Welcome.;
What is a good climb?;
Climbing 12% Grades & Beyond;
Obscure climbs.

Most of these have links and photos.
Another good site is climbbybike.com for loads of information and reviews.

Thanks mate, i'm new here and i enjoy this topics a lot.

Good thread. Useful links there Ben, many thanks.

There are definitely climbs out there that haven't been used. But mostly they have to do with logistics. Getting officials there, lodging for everyone, etc. For example, I'd love to see them go back to the Puy du Dome, but I realize with so little room at the top, and it being a national park, it's less and less likely to happen.

I don't think this year's Giro stage to Val di Fassa is inhumane. The entire Giro is going to be difficult and the most climbing probably in a few years, even though the Giro is often for climbers anyway. But I don't think it's too much. I don't even know if the Fassa stage is more brutal than the 2009 Stage 16 to Monte Petrano that had almost no flats, and was raced in stifling heat. It one came after a tough previous mountain day as well.
