No kidding. People are just ignoring their continued success. I think people are expecting them to falter, especially Darnold. But he made one clutch throw after another after another today, including some very long throws. Plus he was just deadly in the red zone. 22/28, 347, 5 TDs, and not a single pick. It didn't matter what the Falcons tried, coverage, blitzing, double teaming Jefferson, etc. In the second half alone he was 16 of 18 for 250 yards and 3 TDs, for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. Darnold looked like Tom Brady out there.
Let's say the Vikings have a deep playoff run making it all the way to the NFC championship game with Darnold in the MVP conversation. What do you do with Darnold & McCarthy next year? Who stays & who goes?

Very entertaining game. Games like this make the NFL worth watching. Two high-octane offenses functioning at top efficiency- no turnovers nor sacks by either offense. And Josh Allen made NFL history - first player to pass for 3 TDs and run for 3 TDs in a regular season game. And over 400 yds total O for Allen. It would really be nice to see Allen get a SB title under his belt. I think that would get him into the HOF.
Did Graham do his in a championship game?

Just a a matter of who wants to pay him. He's definitely played himself into a good contract just like Baker and Geno. They have time with the rookie but how much money will they be willing to spend and will it compete with other offers ?

Spot on Sciatic: 1954 NFL Championship game where the Cleveland Browns demolished the Detroit Lions 56-10. Otto Graham, the converted RB out of college, threw 3 TDs & ran for 3 TDs winning his 6th championship title. On Detroit's side, Bobby Layne tied an NFL record for most picks in a postseason game throwing 6.

Interestingly, Graham was one of the first QBs to play in Paul Brown's "T formation" offense which was the impetus of the modern passing game. Not a bad arm & he looked pretty athletic:

I see every reason to try to keep Darnold, and expect him to start next year heading into camp, as JJ McCarthy is still just 21 years old.

Anyone watch tonight's game? What a way to lose.

Crazy finish to the Bengals game. McCarthy looked like he was going to have a stroke...........even the 49ers 32nd ranked Special Teams ........so called haven't managed that one this season !
I enjoyed the entire game and the back and forth. Don't know if the offending player was part of the touch team, but after the punt block if you are near the ball better be pretty sure you know how to catch it!! Bengals looking pretty bad despite Joe Burrow, a win is a win.I wonder if Jerry Jones and Cowboys see a downside to tens of millions more seeing Cowboys loss at AT&T stadium, and semi strange to me, despite Dallas crowd, lots of cheer for Cincinnati!!

If they sign Darnold to a 4 yr contract giving him the money that he wants, do you think McCarthy would want to sit the bench for 4 yrs under him? I can't see McCarthy, a 10th OA pick, sitting the bench that long.

I question why he was drafted so high (2nd rd - 46th) considering the 1st ACL tear occurred while in college. He's way undersized (207) given his height (6-0), and was only in the rotation at Texas. From my understanding, a 2nd ACL tear on the same knee joint is a real challenge to recover from - especially at a RB position

Plenty of Cowboy fan meltdowns in YouTube...........

Cowboys fans are the kings of meltdowns. Remember all the smashed TVs in each of the times they recently lost to SF in the playoffs? But the way they lost last night, shades of Leon Lett and all, that was something else.

I don't know that they'd have to give him a 4-year deal. But I'd still try my best to re-sign him. I simply don't buy into the hype the way some people do thinking that every rookie QB drafted high is going to be excellent in the NFL. There was enormous hype about JJ, much of it coming from his ex coach, but I question that McCarthey is going to be better than Darnold. Certainly not likely in 2025.

But I do agree with the article that it's more likely some other team will offer Darnold more money. I don't see it being the Raiders though, and we know it won't be the Jets. Who does that leave? The Giants, maybe the Titans? But I wouldn't be surprised if a team with an aging QB seeks him out also. The Rams come to mind.

I think the Raiders are going to roll the dice with Sanders, and he looks like a high risk to bust to me.

By the numbers Joe Burrow should get MVP votes. Leads the league in TDs, plus total yards, 2nd in QBR, 3rd in passer rating. But he's been sacked and pressured as much as anyone because his OL is terrible, and they don't have much of a running game. Game after game he's pulled his team within winning, only to have their defense give up huge points, and often lose late. Toss in his leadership, perseverance, and determination, after being repeatedly let down. He's joining a short, ugly list of great athletes in history stuck on bad teams. Granted, they got to a SB a few years back, but this year has been something else. He has every right to walk into owner Mike Brown's office when the season is over and call him out for not building a team around him and the few other skill players they have, like Chase and Gesicki. Only so much blame can be thrown at Zach Taylor and DC Lou Anaromo when the players aren't blocking and tackling.

I think he will now be the oldest active FBS coach. He's going to have to work on his communication skills? I don't think he can continue his mumbling - those college players are going to be like WTH is wrong with this cantankerous guy. Lol.
All he is doing is getting closer to his girlfriend and maybe eyeing some other cheerleaders honestly. Imagine if he does terrible in college as a head coach as well.

Sanders has posted other things, like posting "Thank GOD!!!" every game the Raiders lose. And a video where he says, "tell the Raiders I'm coming". As if he's so damn good he's going to walk into the building and quickly turn the entire organization around. You know, like Jamarcus Walrus was going to do. Todd Marinovich before him. Shedeur is equally likely to be the next Johnny Manzeil, Brady Quinn, Danny Wuerffel...

I have seen nothing to convince me he is worthy of the #1 overall pick, let alone a top 10 pick. But the hype is unreal on him. Someone will reach. If Tom Telesco and the Raiders are smart, they would talk the hype up as much as anyone, then trade out of that pick for more picks, and see of another QB falls to them in the 2nd or 3rd round they like. Raiders need help on the OL, a DT, a WR, CB, a LB who can pass cover, a RB. They need a legit OC, and maybe to reboot with a HC. They need all this as much as they need a QB, honestly. And that is going to take time. At best they can do it in 2-3 seasons. Rolling the dice on a high risk QB now may be a historic fools' errand.

I can imagine mumbles Belicheck talking to college players struggling to stay awake, as they wonder if he's going to bring his hot gf to practice some day.

remember watching some PBS show or 30-30 ESPN thing about when the NFL contract flood gates opened up and players and agents were swimming in pools of endless money. I think the Sanders legacy at this point could be as one and done and who cares.. The amount of hype and anticipation are awe inspiring!! He may sign a first contract that will set him up for life regardless of how he performs. I don't love it, but I certainly understand tooting your own horn, inflation of your value. You only have to hit the lottery once, why not w the Raiders..
Just saw a part of a program with a seemingly bitter Mark Gastineau about hall of fame and current player salaries..

Here's your guy:

I'm surprised that his dad is going to let him play in the Alamo Bowl (risking injury & hurting his draft status). And I've heard that he might not participate in the Combine opting instead of throwing at CU's pro day.

He's a little undersized at 215 (6-2). The last 2 seasons he was a throwing machine at CU with this season being exceptional with near 4000 yds passing , 35 TDs & a 168.8 passer rating. (of course, he had Travis Hunter to throw to). In his 4 seasons of college ball (2 at FCS Jackson St & 2 at CU) he's thrown for 14,000 yds & 132 TDs. Yardage wise he was the 3rd best QB in the nation:

Barring injury at the Alamo Bowl or any problems throwing at his pro day, he should be the #1 QB on the board & likely the #1 OA pick (Travis Hunter could be #1 depending upon what team ends up that pick, e.g. Jacksonville).
