NBC Gold screws Paris-Roubaix viewers

Race fans in the USA were screwed out of the last 5 km of the Paris-Roubaix TV coverage today.

We pay good money for a subscription to NBC GOLD, then get screwed. NBC doesn't care since they have the money, with no option for a refund.

I have tweeted Phil LIggett and Paul Sherwood to inform them that their coverage was cut off before the race ended. I am sure NBC will not tell them.

That's why I always have backup streams.

I couldn't even log into their site today, which I have a subscription to. Not that I cared that much because I didn't have to listen to Phil and Paul while watching just as good if not a better quality stream on tiz.

With the streams available to the US on Ustream and Youtube that get posted these days, buying subscriptions from NBC is throwing good money away. I'll not give them another penny...

I'm just surprised that anyone would pay them for their coverage. I cant remember last time I had NBC on. Years back. I rather watch crappy internet streams than NBC. And I refuse to listen to those two schmucks.

There are some great youtube streams but I had 4 of them turned off today with copyright infringement messages. I can never get Tiz cycling to work for me live, it is fine on replay but always cuts out live.....I'm clueless as to why.

I bought it because they have HD quality streams that have full race replays. I like that for the Tour. I won't do it anymore though, there's much better sites on the internet that stream HD for free.

I noticed that the ASO was trolling youtube pretty hard looking for streams. That's too bad.

We gotta get Tiz working for you Carol, I haven't had any issues since I found my way to their main site. :)

Sorry you're having difficulty with the Tiz stream. I wonder what the issue is? I had it running all race (with the Ustream version ready as a backup) and only lost it once for about 10-15 seconds. I also appreceiate that they switch to a non-commentary feed during commercials.

I used to have issues with Tiz until I started going to their main site first and navigating to the livestream from there. Before that any time I clicked a link from the race threads it would always cut out on me in the last few K's of the race that I was watching. I'm not sure what would cause that, it seems odd.

I tried to watch via their app on my Apple TV and couldn't log in either, same thing on the website. Next, I tried all the streams I know of with no luck. In desperation, I emailed NBC Gold's support and they quickly replied with apologies and a URL I was able to use without any further issues.

It's frustrating, but I will subscribe again this year. My hope is that they will eventually be able to get all the main races, they're already halfway there. Yes, it would be great to be able to use something like YouTube all the time, and maybe one day that will happen, but NBC Gold does have its advantages when it works (which is most of the time for me). Chief among them: no commercials, excellent streaming quality, availability via multiple platforms, and on demand replays.

I used to think the same thing because they do offer all those things, but so does Tiz-racing.com for free..

Any assistance appreciated :). I run it right from tiz-cycling.racing/livestreams and get either a black screen or it starts and quits after a short while. But I can watch a replay without issues so I have the right software/plugins or whatever I would think.

Today I ended up on youtube from France TV and it was a stellar HD stream that never dropped once! Of course I couldn't understand a word but I knew all the players so it didn't matter. LOL I guess Amaury didn't find it :).

Tiz is suffering from high traffic limitations. They are only good on slow days. I think they are on some super cheap $1.99/month hosting plan ... They have good intentions but its very amateurishly done and the desperate begging for clicking on ads during commercials will get them banned from the AdSense banner network sooner than later. Once they wont make a penny, it will be a all over for them.

You need to be creative, find a good quality video in any language and then open another window and find some poor quality English stream. Turn off the sound on your quality video feed and listen English from another stream.

That's how I sometimes roll ...

Bummer that it didn't work this morning, luckily they provided a URL to watch the last 40K.

It appears it wasn't even directly their fault, it was a company called piano.io that used to be tinypass.com that was slacking. The company appears to based out of New York with offices (programmers), in the Slovakia and Russia.

Ultimately, you need to rely on companies that will work - so NBC will need to revisit this.

At least NBC responded to support email and twitter / in contrast to Piano.io (Piano CEO Trevor Kaufmann - can be reached via, dial by name, from main number)

I do that all the time, but today there was just no finding a functional English stream to use the audio!

my only question to you is WHY you keep throwing your money on useless NBC? I quit back in 2012 when they fv*ked up big time diring Il Giro. Not worth a single penny to use them for cycling broadcasting feeds.

I ended up watching 5 straight hours, live, on Tiz cycling which was linked via CyclingFans.com. It was uninterrupted, which was a surprise to me. I would never pay to listen to Phil and Paul these days. I would much rather watch and listen to a Sporza stream in Flemish, and I don't speak a word of it.

That looks pretty good, but it's more than twice as expensive as NBC Gold and don't show Il Giro nor La Vuelta. Their schedule is still pretty great though. How reliable are their streams?

If the question was about CyclingTV, very reliable, no problem until now. No advertising during the race. Very high quality video.

I have 2 sportchannels on my tv package and Paris Roubaix was the first live race since the new season is started. Sometimes, it's nice to be sure to have a site where you're sure to find some races without problems. This year, i have problem with Tiz-Cycling.

P.S. For the Giro, it's a subscription just for that.
