First time on this forum, not sure where to post. I am a current D1 Distance runner, specializing in 10k and cross country events. All american in cross country, regional qualifier on the track. I have a lab certified vo2 Max of 88.8, and only 22yo., 61/62kg
I have been a diehard cycling fan for years, and ride on a regular basis 3-6hr/wk. (Basic Specialized Allez Sprint) Usually average 180-210W on Z2ish rides, estimated FTP of 352W.
For the last 4 years, my goal has been to compete on the marathon circuit after graduating. However, I have recently considered the possibility of entering the road cycling scene.
For how much of a world tour fan I am, my knowledge of local cycling and Semi-Pro/amateur is extremely poor.
My question is twofold-
1. What is the path for someone to get on to the competitive cycling scene, maybe eventually a small pro team
2. Is it worth it to chase this dream over distance running (a world I'm already familiar with, but less enthusiastic)? If I put in 20+ hours instead of 6, could I make it?
I'm so lost. Help.
