Seems clear the sport's major problem is not doping riders but crooked administrators. Who would you propose to run UCI (and other problem bodies) moving forward?

Ashenden, Howman, Fahey & Pound.

And the associated questions:
- how are these guys elected (presumably)
- who are the local cycling agency leaders influencing this process
- which other organizations/leaders can assist in facilitating this change (media, major sponsors, government agencies, etc)

Then also what can these new guys contribute differently to the sport? What would cycling look like under the new scenario vs the "current as is"?

I'd vote for the youngest guy/gal in the peleton.

Thanks Laura but I'm not interested, nor am I the editor-in-chief by the way...
Looks like a bug or a joke by someone administering the forum :)

But it's interesting nevertheless that the thread prompted your reply...

You are correct though in your inference, new administrators do need experience and historical perspective to take this forward. And some of the recent direction for the sport that UCI has commenced seems good and ought to continue, eg expanded focus on China.

The problem is those guys are on the enforcement end and I don't know that it would turn out as well as expected.

In Pat's spot: Sylvia Schenk. This time I don't think I mangled her name.

In Hein's spot: Patrice Clerc

As mentioned elsewhere, fire the UCI from all anti-doping enforcement. Let the local ADA open cases and the UCI becomes, at best, rider advocate in anti-doping.

Back-dated testing with current penalties will really discourage things as long as WADA can open cases.

DW:

If I had a tongue-in-cheek emoticon I would have used it in that post.

Besides, 3 from the Antipodes and 1 RCMP would not be balanced.

I would also pick someone with a legal background but no connetion to cycling.

I would also pick people who would move the UCI out of Swizterland to a major western city, preferably Brussels where they cant hide in the one of the worlds biggest banking embezzlement locations and the laws that protect such a country.

Schenk is the obvious candidate.

Clerc as well.

I'd also suggest that there needs to be reform at the national level as well. ie Spanish, US etc all need reforming. You can reform at the UCI level but it is not much good if the local feds are still protecting dopers.

These might just not be the best days to ask me about UCI. It seems to be overall disappointing.

Regarding China, I just couldn't get my head around that. My own experience in China, on and off a bike, has just made me wonder: Why?

Sure there are millions, even billions, of bikes in China. But racing?

It makes me think of the Great Wall Marathon. It just doesn't work for me.

Brussels? Isn't there enough corruption already in Brussels?

Aigle is the proper location. It is not a problem for the Swiss government to audit the UCI's accounts, if it wants to.
