No one wants to discourage you from riding or racing. But the reality of being a Pro Cyclist is likely nothing like you imagine it to be. Which is probably why there are no replies.

Work hard on your studies and have fun on the bike. Maybe the racing thing will work out. If the riding/racing doesn't work out you'll have fun along the way and an education so you can enjoy cycling into your old age and get interesting work.

I like this book: http://www.amazon.com/Cyclists-Training-Bible-Complete-Competitive/dp/1884737218

I think people aren't quite sure what to say.

I'm not sure what you mean by saying you can ride your bike for half an hour continuous? Unless I misunderstand you this can be done by most people?

Over the next year you should work your way up to riding six days per week for about 3-4 hours per day and you should include as many hills in your schedule as you can.

Join a club.

Start racing others.

Things will become more clear as you go.

Great welcome to the sport, great to have ambition. As said get out and ride, build your fitness, get into racing. If headed to the US then find a school with a cycling programme.

Does the Indian National Programme have any coaching structure? Is there a local club, do they have coaches, is there a local bike store that caters to racing cyclists or do you have to order stuff in. These are normally good sources of local information on rides and races. If not you may want to consider an online coach. Look for one who offers more than just training programmes. A lot more to road racing than just getting in the Ks on the bike.
