I doubt it.
Nibali has more than an outside chance at the podium.
If Contador is not around, he could win. He's a great climber and can TT quite well. I would say he's a bit better than Basso.

I could see him winning the Giro however.

no chance at podium of le tour.something lacks but is not the balls.wiggins, menchov, schlecks, cadel are all above him
he will probably make the top ten at le tour
in il giro he will be super-domestique for basso that's already planned.

Nibali loves the Giro so even though the hes told to do the Tour, he still wants to ride his home race where the millions and millions of Squalo fans adore him.

No doubt his Heart says Giro but I think he should forego and concentrate 100% on TDF. W/O Contador next year's race is anyone's and the Liqui boys sure know how to ride a 3 week race. I think the opportunities will be there for them/him. I can see him challenging.

Basso realized the TDF is out of his grasp-so there is no need to bother with it anymore-while Nibali "must" start focusing on the Tour exclusively from now on-2012 parcours suits him perfectly-even if the Giro does as well- he's currently the inheritor of the Liquigas throne & the team needs to perform well not only in May but in July too...

if menchov can podium, then nibali can easily podium and win it all for that matter. 2 + 2 = 4

I rate Menchov as a better climber and a FAR better TT'r than Nibali is, so if Menchov can't podium, Nibali sure as hell won't either.

Nibali's TT'ing seems a bit overrated, he's not really any better than Andy, who is a reasonable TT'er but cops a lot of flak for it. Neither are ever going to win a GT from their TT though.

Of course he is a podium candidate at the Tour.
7th in 2009. A tiny little bit over 2' off the podium. 2010 his real breakout year, 2011 after that a bit disappointing, but he was stronger than he was in 09. No reason he shouldn't beat Menchov, Evans, Wiggins. Contador... ok, different story.

Saying Andy is a reasonable tt'er is quite amusing.

After Menchov's tepid year this last season he's better step up his game. I think Nibs is only getting better, could def win the Giro, and he and Basso will see what develops in the Tour.

Top20 in a GT TT isn't reasonable?

This topic will go on forever. I have come to believe that it's not worth trying to discuss it.
Nibali's TT has been overrated ever since he showed some talent in it and Andy's TT is supposed to be as bad as Puritos ever since he challenged for the Tour.
Usually no rational argument will change the opinion of people who want to believe this.

To say something on topic:
I think Nibali and Basso should figure it out between them who want's to peak at what race to get the best result for the team. Their chances to podium in the Tour are very slim, but both would most likely get a Top 10 placing.
So it might be wise (for the team) to have them both ride the Tour, one the Giro for the win and one the Vuelta for the win. In this case it would be Nibali for the Vuelta I guess.
I don't really believe this will happen though.

Or Basso rides Giro and Vuelta for the win while supporting him in Vuelta and trying to podium the tour.

I think it would be good for Nibali to go to the TDF. Basso will be undisputed leader at the Giro and will probably win. We saw this year that Nibali loses time to Scarponi in the mountains and Basso would hopefully not. And that is where the Giro is decided.

I think he could animate the TDF really well. If he goes to the Giro he shall be too tired for the Tour. Also his schedule/ CN article seems to imply he shall not race the Vuelta??? ( but shall instead just do the WC in the autumn period )

Also @ Shadow how can Basso ride the the Giro and Vuelta yet support Nibali in the Vuelta???

I meant Nibali supporting Basso in the Vuelta.

No? Where has Nibali proven himself to be in the league of Evans, Menchov or Contador as GT TT'ers?
I agree with Evans and Contador, but Menchov??? La Vuelta 2010 for instance.
