Nibali next year programe giro or tour?

i have been wondering about this as well

either he will let basso have one last try at the tour and go for the giro himself knowing that without contador there he will have a much better chance or maybe basso will want another giro and nibali does the tour.

i would prefer the first option tbh.

just wondering how much Nibali has a say when negotiate with Basso. I feel Basso knows he can't win tour so he might go for giro

On the other hand, Basso said he can help Nibali in giro, then Nibali can work for him in tour, but honestly I think that is a bad idea!

How about new Sidi commercial? This year was a massive breakthrough and I'm really looking forward to see more to come.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Giro parcours with a lot of finishes at the end of long, technical descents in 2012. I their best course of action would be to have Nibali and Basso both ride the Giro and the Vuelta leaving the Tour for Sagan to hunt for Green and Smyd to go for Polka Dot (but they won't do that obv).

In any case they should focus on the Giro and let someone finish in the top 10 in the other two. Come to think of it, I wonder how Lampre are gonna handle Scarponi and Cunego next year.

Whichever GT has the best opportunities for attacks on the downhill that can stick to the end. It would be fun if that were the Tour because then we could be amused by Andy being left behind and complaining about the unfairness of it all.

I actually think it's possible that the Giro may design their route with Nibali's downhill skills in mind. Then maybe Samu will go too:)

I don't think he'll enter another Grand Tour where Contador is at

He should do the Giro and Vuelta double again. So should Ivan Basso. It's the best chance Liquigas have for a GT win really...

If he wants to try then why not? I don't think it's a crime to schedule Giro and Tour in one year. The main point is that with a schedule Giro/Vuelta he can achive more.

Why not? They have Sagan for stage wins and a few days in green or yellow. At the Tour.

Yeah you can send Sagan to the Tour if you send Basso/Nibali to the Vuelta.

The Tour for another spot in the lower half of the top-10, or the Giro for another podium? It's just a matter of what he finds most appealing.

He can win the Giro. Third this year is like getting second in a normal GT and Scarponi isn't getting any younger. Plus this route didn't suit him at all. And I don't even like Nibali...

And even if he would get second again next year, he'd still be able to help Basso who IMO can win the Giro for a third time next year. Basso should definitely give up on his Tour dreams now and just win as many Giro's as he possibly can in the short time he'll be able to do so. And if he fails at that nothing lost really... Cause if you can't win the Giro you sure as hell wouldn't have won the Tour.

I can't see Basso or Nibali making the podium at the Tour but both could podium at the Giro like 2010. Then Nibali could maybe have another shot at the Vuelta. I think Sagan could then have a free hand to target stages in the TDF. Could not see him winning the Green jersey. I doubt that Scarponi or Rodriguez will ever win a grand tour even though they are brilliant climbers on their day but struggle to do it over three weeks as well as Rodriguez's mediocre time trialling.

Discussions are academic before the various parcours get revealed. I wouldn't be making any decisions as a cyclist before I knew what the races looked like.

I think this is exactly what they will do too. Once revealed then come the "discussions" within the team

Depends on Contador. If he is sanctioned, Nibali must ride the Tour. Nibali can win it; Basso can't. If it works out that way, Liquigas could possibly win the Giro and the Tour.

Nibali must win the Giro first, with a Giro and a Vuelta go to the Tour as Liquigas GC leader and best italian now.

he might be able to beat AS, but can't see somehow he can beat AC

I believe that Nibali can win the Tour one day, so if there are descent finishers and enough TT's than he should give it a go. I wouldn't downgrade much on the recent Vuelta as his previous 3 GT's were all podiums.

Nibali cant win TdF I think. His survival tactics with no attacks in the mountains and not so good TT wont be great in Tour. He will lose in TT regarding most of the field. I bet they both will start the Giro.
