    Thanks!

Might have been discussed before but am reading through Stuart O'Grady's auto (Battle Scars) at the moment, I'm just over half way through.

Strange omission from the guy, who says he only tried EPO once in 98 and then stayed away from the stuff. But a few things.

He made a lot of breakaways and a lot of these breakaways stayed away from the pack which he won, which would indicate a very strong rider.

But what I'm finding most odd at all, is when he won the madison competition at the Athens olympic games, he actually went home to train after the road race and then returned to the track which I do find suspicious, which has led me to post on here.

Maybe I am just naive either way.

Thoughts???

He went home to Australia? Not home to wherever he was living in Europe?

The road race was 14 August.
The madison was 24 August.

The Italian cross country skiers once went home during some Worlds or Olympics in North America (can't remember which), only to come back refreshed and refuled. They were clients of Conconi. Johannes Dürr went home to Austria to" train" during the Sochi games. Sadly for him IOC sent the testers after him.

stuey mate is just unlucky. and he was the victim or poor mentors and counselors at GAN. why did he not get the Roger Legeay moment at GAN. It was good tho that Jensie had that cockamamie brilliant idea to bury the dope by the roadside in France in 1998 when the gendarmes came a calling. can you just imagine the squirrels and raccoons running around with epo coarsing thru their veins thanks to Jens.

Does Stuey mate write about staying outside the village at Manchester in 2002 so he and his mates could really prepare without anyone interfering ? Certainly it showed the GB boys how they had to prepare if they were going to beat them. Or ....let me guess ... he omitted that bit....,,

Oh but wait a minute - here is a quote from Stuey mate.

"I believed that he (Armstrong) won those seven Tours clean. I wanted to believe that like everyone else.

"He has come back from cancer and in my mind there was, `Why would you ever go down this avenue?'

Speaking to The Advertiser from his Luxembourg home this week, Australian cycling's elder statesman said he had never even considered doping in his career.

"It's never been a thought, never been an option,
" he said.

"Ever since I've been with (coach) Charlie Walsh through the Institute of Sport, it (doping) and all that was just never an option.

"Cycling for a lot of people is just a hobby or they're fans, but this is my life.

"I consider myself a pretty good bike rider and I've been happy with what I've been able to achieve with my natural ability."

Can I ask - why ever did you buy his book ? You might just as well have entertained yourself with "It's not about the bike", at least you can pick copies of that up cheaply now.

He went back home to his European home of Toulouse.

Freddy mate - you are right no mention of the commonwealth games in Manchester incident in Manchester, he really did clean up at that race.

He mentions early on in the book that he didn't want to ride for Armstrong throughout his career.

Why did I buy it, £3 on my kindle I thought it would be an interesting read, a bit like Michael Barry's but its not that great.

Well, I would never have guessed it.

"They" cleaned up. Apparently it was like on the US postal bus in one room....

Yes, I don't remember the race from memory but O'Grady's says who he broke off the front, then Cadel Evans broke next with Baden Cooke winning the sprint for 3rd.

A look at the cycling medals for that games, Australia cleaned up pretty good.

Has Stuey Mate got some serious beef with French team mates?

I notice he describes a lot of them as 'this french rider' 'that french rider' - when they are on his team, surely he would have known them.

Yet Matt 'Whitey' White, is mentioned an awful lot. - I didn't think he was ever that good?

Coming across a little like Armstrong now in his book.

He probably doesn't know how to spell their names.
