I'm not sure what the muscles are called below your neck and in between your shoulder blades. But lately I've been getting intense pain in those muscles after riding. Anyone know what might be causing this?? Thanks!

You are reaching too far to the bars
What have you done with your bike latley moved the bars further away or put your seat back or lowered the bars.

When you pull to far the top two ribs dont expand and will cause your gut to swell like your 12 months preagnent.

Could it be your riding position?

Are you riding with your body quite low to the bars and lifting your head to see in front of you?

Sometimes on a descent if I go to the drop bars and look up every now and then, when I sit back up my neck down there is quite stiff.

It's not keeping your spine in a very straight line so if this is the case just look up less or be conscious of looking up with your whole body not just your head.

Also check that it's only after riding that you get it and not also, for example, after certain periods of sleep or intensive mental concentration. If it's not just after bike rides, such pain can also be a sign of jaw problems. I'll elaborate if that turns out to be the case otherwise, what these guys said ^^^ :)
