Pat McQuaid must go!

He is way too arrogant, dictatoreal, and ineffective. The pro's need a pro organization like the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc... to run things, leave the UCI to the Olympics, Worlds, etc.
His radio ban was unwarranted, the sporting criteria points system is ruining tradition roles in the peloton, his black mailing of teams to compete in the ridiculous tour of beijing, not to mention the witch hunting, delays and wrong rulings in drug cases. Enough is enough, get rid of Pat McQuaid!

Jail would be convenient. Coming on this forum and have people throw some question at him would be another fun idea.

Perhaps as a warmup for the crowd in Paris before the cyclists reach the Champs-Élysées they could put him in stocks on the back of a horse drawn cart and let the crowd throw rotten eggs and tomatos at him.

Seriously though jail might be well where he deserves to go.

I'm sure that better candidates exist.

Absolutely not.

We need a unified governing body for all the cycling disciplines ... we have far too many great cross-over riders and national teams for anything else.

Plus the stink of corruption in those private American monopolies is at least as bad as the UCI under Verbruggen ... and practically impossible to reform.

CobbleStoner said:

I'd say exactly the opposite. The radio ban has made races more interesting and less predictable, more often than not.

Sure, the delays are terrible ... and mostly nothing to do with the UCI.

Name one major country where the legal/justice system is both quick and fair.

As to the witch hunting ... I prefer witches to cheating and lying cyclists ... every time.

NHL, etc... to run things

I agree Pat should go, but there are other organizations to aspire to than the NHL... people think Tour of Beijing is bad? The NHL actually moved Canadian hockey teams to the US south to grow the sport, leaving those Canadian cities without any NHL team at all...!

Gary Bettman is one of the most hated men in all of Canada...I think McQuaid is worse though. At least NHL players do have an association to represent their interests.

err?

So do pro-cyclists and Pro-tour teams.

Could it be that they are not so influential, because they lack unity, discipline and a monopoly?

This peasant has disgraced Eire and thus is now known as the "OAF of AIGLE" !
Think i'm joking? Google and see !

Putting him the " stocks " at the next " Pro Tour Monument " he attends will be the cheapest solution to disposing of him !

From now on refer to him as the " OAF " so that anyone else with the name " Mc Quaid " can hold their head high !

Weeell.......yes, I'd like to see him go. Obviously. I'd like a lot of things to happen actually. I'd like Jens Voight to be the next German Chancellor. :D Doesn't mean it's going to happen.

I'm not familiar with the organisations you name, but when I think of other international sports organisations.......of god, I'm thinking FIFA. No, please, no.

Preaching to the converted Cobblestoner... I seriously doubt that there's any active poster here who admires the way McQuack leads the UCI. His failed attempts to limit the power of the ASO and his bungling of the Rasmussen case should have buried him permanently in 2007, but whatever.

I seriously doubt though that there's anyone competent to replace him within the organisation though, the structure is diseased and broken. Only other President of the UCI I've lived with was Verbruggen who was fantastically incompetent, massively corrupt, saddled us with the ProTour system, and spent 14 years fiddling while Rome was burning with Clinic-related fires. McQuaid's successor, whomever it is will be no different. As an international body, accountable to noone, and entirely without scrutiny and policing except for whatever half-measures it imposes upon itself, the UCI (and any similar body) will always tend towards incompetence and corruption.

Absolutely...much as he is the poster child for incompetence and corruption, he remains a symptom, not the root cause. Not to excuse him...he absolutely deserves to be locked in stocks and pelted with rotten fruit - but so would anyone else from inside the UCI.

Someone should abduct Pat and put him in stocks at the top of the final climb next RvV.

When the top minds behind the Bio Passport start showing a lack of faith in the administration, wouldn't you think it might be time to quit while you're ahead???

latest quote from the completely out of touch idiot who runs the UCI: “his (Bruyneel) Tour withdrawal will be the theme here three weeks long,” McQuaid told the dpa news agency at the start of the race.

really? that is the theme of this years race, not an Englishman attempting to win, not an open race for the green jersey, not the route, not even the 99th edition, just some old guy you have a grudge with not coming to the tour... moron

Yeah but who cares about hockey in a cycling forum?

Fatty Pat should have had his fat azz kicked out years ago, but unfortunately the guy is to powerful, the only solution i can see is if the breakout league comes to a reality. I surely hope so, maybe we finally then can have an organisation that actually cares about the sport and will work for its progress.
