He's trying to win an Olympic medal ffs. A tt bike might be fine for a w'end warrior (Olympic track banking is much higher than suburban outdoor track) or "cool" fixie conversion because of horizontal dropout, but not for a tilt at Olympic track medals. BB is too low to start with, and geo is different on a track bike.

Photo's of the BMC track bike from Berlin are in the following article.....

What does Phinney intend on racing at the Olympics? His best chance would be IP 4000m, but its not an Olympic event.....and Bobridge would own him. US don't have a competitive TP team. Omnium?

On the clincher wheels on TT bikes, I saw an interview with Steve(?) Hed, talked about with the move to 23mm rims and matching 23mm tyres and the lower pressure in the tyres giving tubular-like rolling resistance, what little is lost in going to a clincher tyre is more than made up with in braking performance.

I don't believe he has ridden the required minimum of one qualifying
event in the Olympic qualifying period. He would have to ride the
Pan-Ams in Argentina (March 5-9) and/or the Worlds in Melbourne
(April 4-8) if he actually intends to qualify to ride the omnium at the
London Olympics.
