Play the CQ Manager Game 2016!

Hi all,

many of you have played the CQ Manager Game before, so this post is partially to serve as a reminder to those of you who are interested in playing again, but don't necessarily visit the games forum often. This post is also intended to call attention to the game itself and the games forum in general, for forum users that haven't visited it before.

The premise of the game is simple - you act as a team manager, picking between 25 and 33 riders for the year, spending no more than 7500 CQ points (as detailed by cqranking.com). Cyclingnews forums poster Hugo Koblet invented the game, and since 2011 it has become, as far as I know, the biggest online cycling fantasy game on english-language forums - last year there were 155 teams, and it would be great to get even more.

Anyway, details are to be found on this thread. I recognize this is being posted in the road forum, and don't intend for this to be a discussion thread here - I asked a mod's permission* to post it temporarily here for a week (deadline for entry is 23:59 CET January 4th), since it's the offseason and folks may not be aware of its existence. If you haven't played before, you should try it out! Even if it takes a year of participation to figure out how to pick a good team, you'll have plenty of riders to follow throughout the ups and downs of the year, and you might gain an interest in races you never really knew about before.

If you have questions etc, I encourage you to ask them in the main game thread I've linked to, or by PM.

*I had been in contact with the mod afrank last year and made an identical post to this one, and it was stickied for a week. I contacted afrank again a few weeks ago and haven't heard back; I am hoping active mods are okay with this post - I am going off the assumption that it's okay since last year it was.

I should also call attention to the host of other CQ games that have sprung up since this game got started 5 years ago.

Poster mc_mountain ran the Youth CQ game for the last 3 years, which is a similar concept to the main game but with neo-pros. mc couldn't take it on this year, but LaFlorecita has taken the reins and has posted an opening thread for the 2016 youth game. The deadline for this is January 5th.

Poster Armchair Cyclist has run a whole host of CQ games. Similar to the youth game, he has run an Emerging Riders game, where you pick a team of riders who have accumulated fewer than 200 CQ points total, and follow them through the next 3 years. I've been assured that there is a game coming out for the current season, but the deadline is normally not until the end of January, so it hasn't been posted yet. The first two editions are here and here.

Armchair Cyclist has also run CQ games throughout the year, for the GTs and the classics. If you are interested in these, keep your eyes on the Games forum.

I hope you can participate and have fun!

There will indeed be a 2016-18 Emerging Riders game: looking to get all the data sorted for the weekend, and the closing date will again be the end of January. If you want to start looking, you'll need 18 riders who each have a lifetime CQ total of less than 200 points. A non-exhaustive list will be available when I launch properly.

If anyone would like to take on the monthly updates on one of the Emerging Riders games I would be happy to provide the spreadsheet and some tips. It is not very onerous, but the prose will dry up if I need to dream up three variants of it each month.

If anyone is up for running the Career in Decline game, I can also provide the spreadsheets for that, and could help getting it started, but I won't take it on for the year, so unless anyone is willing, that one will die out.

I could do monthly reports for January and February if no one else takes it.

For the main game, the deadline is just over two days away. We have 63 teams so far; I'm not sure if we will get to last year's record-setting total of 155 teams, but the more the merrier! PM me before 23:59 CET on January 4th if you want to play.

I have not used(/had) this account (long) enough yet to send you a PM, how do I send you my team?
You have to have 10 posts :)
so to understand, before submitting a team you need 10 posts,- is there no way around this?
Not on this forum. You can create an account on Velorooms forum, however. There is no such restriction there. It is the same game that is run through both forums :)
