(or floating ads, whatever you want to call them)
Are one sure way to stop people visiting the website/forum.

I for one am getting annoyed ****less by the xbox 360 advert that keeps popping up in the forum.

If this is the way forward, bye bye, will find somewhere else.

Annoying as ****.

wow I can vent on here about those ads!

The one that was the worst in my opinion was the flashing red SRAM ? I think it was....just kept flashing to the right side as I was trying to read an article...it felt almost seizure-inducing. Burned me up...
---AND I really got tired of the 'you-know-who' FRS ads....
UGH

The 360 one annoys me a sh*tload too, mainly because i have the game, but it's the fact it pops up all the time that does my head in.

(Homefront is an awesome game however, for anyone that does have a 360, i really recommend it)

I understand the need for advertising to keep the site running, payment of staff etc, but this sort of invasive advertising is bad. It annoys the users of the site, and if people stop going to the forums because of the pop up adverts, you'll lose a number of views for the adverts along the sidebars.

There's a line that needs to be met, but this sort of crosses it. I personally never use website that forcibly rams ads down my throat, i don't want to add CN to that list.

Once the contract for this ad runs out, please don't use this type of pop-up ad again please.

I have no idea what this thread is about. The only ads I see here are static images down the right margin. Thank you Opera browser for allowing me to disable Flash and animated images at cn.com.

Yes, what pop ups?

Ads by Google appear throughout the web on sites that use Google's AdSense program to show ads. Sometimes the ads we show you are based on the content of the page you are viewing. Other times, the ads are intended to reflect your interests which are based on the content of the webpages from participating websites that you've previously visited.

Maybe something to do with this?

Having read this thread, I realised that I've never seen CN "au naturel" with ads since I use AdBlock Plus on Firefox.

So just for laughs I decided to turn it off to find out what everyone was complaining about. Only it wasn't funny at all - that lot would give most people a headache.

The ads are not good. The flashing red SRAM one is particularly bad as it fries your brain after a while, so blocking them is the only way apart from leaving the place.
