Is there a special pass I can get to directly send a message to a user? He and I are riding Unbound this year, and would like to meet up. I don't want to post any personal information on the unbound thread, so I would like to be able to message him my personal phone number, or email.

But don't you see?
One of you could be a minor!
Much safer to just post personal information out in the open.

Yeah, I remember that time a guy thretened to come and kill me and sexually assault my wife (over freaking Lance Armstrong), so I'm with you, lets all just post our personal informatoin on threads...it'll be a party...

It seemss strange to have a social platform, with no ability to exchange information or message privately.

Thanks Netserk, for the work around!

A foreshadowing of today’s world. Almost quaint. Strange (not really) how many are out there now if scratched.

Maybe admins could help passing messages between the users.
I don't think admins (as opposed to moderators) would want to get involved in that. There have been occasional requests through me to forward messages: I wouldn't want to make a habit of it, but occasional instances for specific reasons such a Chewbacca raises I could do.

It's unfortunate that the facility was, for the most part, disabled, but sarcastic comments here are not going to remedy that.

Policy is completely justified because I lied when I said I was 18 when signing up (I was only 17 at the time) and I posted some terrible cycling opinions in the months leading up to my 18th birth day

Just for curiosity, which post do you find sarcastic?

create a throw away Gmail or outlook email account and put the address in a thread.

How many phonies will actually pretend to be the other user ?
I think you could sort it out.

I'm glad it worked out.

If I wanted to exchange contact details with somebody , here's what I would do:

I would create a throwaway email.... Potomac River at GmailDotCom for example, and post the address in a forum thread.
Other user sends an email to that address which includes a code word of their choosing e.g. "Apples" and notes the time they sent it.
The other user posts to the thread saying he/she sent an email at a certain time that contains the word "apples" in the subject line.
I check my emails for a message that arrived at that time and has the code word in the subject line.
This seems low risk, if rather tedious.

@AmRacer

Mods can chat with each other too. Anyway. If all else fails, one can still try out the suggested path. If you have any suggestions, feel free to share them.
