Prize Money (Or Lack Of)

It always intrigues me as to what the prize money is for winning stages/races. You can easily (if you spend the time) find what is on offer at the TdF and other GT races, and after some scouring I found out that the Tour of Flanders had a whopping 20k Euros for the winner. Hardly a sum to retire on.

Does anyone know what is on offer in the forthcoming races? I can't imagine the Basque Tour is swilling with cash.

and don't forget they divide the prize money between all the riders and staff...

Indeed - I may be coming to the wrong conclusion, but it seems to me that the prize money is so poor that the race organisers actively go out of their way to conceal it.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong!

Roubaix is 30K for the winner

Was the prize money for winning big one day races more substantial in previous decades (adjusting for inflation)? I have a vague memory of commentary during a video I watched recently of some mid or late 80s monument mentioning a winner's prize that was about the same as the ones mentioned here (so much more in real terms).

The only race I know that gives a lot is the Tour. I would think winning the race is better for contract time and building results.

Then it depends on the contract. Take I just finished Cav's book and from 08-11 he was on his rookie contract from HTC and he had almost no bonuses. So he was winning races and not getting rewarded.

Or you have like BMC was accused of a while ago with paying riders big money then riders getting no results.

One of my relatives suggests the team that ride on the day only get in the region of half the quoted amount to share, after stoppages for various items eg local taxes,10% to team staff, union contribution, anti doping. The money is distributed through an agency who do the calculations for a fee which is also deducted. Additionally, teams may also have am independent bonus structure for specific results in certain races.

He is still waiting for some payments from races over a year ago.
