Question on races

Race water bottles are single-use, biodegradable plastic. Riders have to discard them in certain designated areas along a race route, for ease of collection. Discarding bottles (or gel wrapper, rice-cake tin foil, etc) outside the “green zones” can lead to a fine, unless the rider is giving the bottle to a spectator as a souvenir.

Thanks for your reply. Have bottles always been made of biodegradable plastic?
