Is it just me that had the impression that even guys like Contador and Rodriguez were just trying to survive those ridiculously steep climbs like the Cuitu Negro?

Is it just me findint it ridiculous that the best climbers in the world have to craw climbs like that, intead of race them, attacking, showing how fast and strong they are?

What's the point in including such hard climbs and stages in GTs? Isn't cycling supposed to show how extraordinary those pro athletes are? I mean, there's nothing of extraordinary in seeing those cyclists almost having to walk up those climbs...
