Radioban in cyclocross

I was just wondering.

It's been a while since the radios have been banned in cyclocross. When exactly? I've got a pic of Erwin Vervecken with an ear piece, from 2002.

Was there such a huge protest in the cyclocross world?

I think Boom is being very hypocrite. How many crosses has he raced, unallowed to use a radio ???

Radios on a CX circuit have much less to do with safety or tactics. You go by the coach every 7 minutes and he can tell you what you need to know tactically. Sure a radio to tell the mechanic to be ready for a flat or to lower tire pressure but even that is less critical. It isn't of much value to tell a rider that there is a hazard ahead since they go by the same point several times in a race. I hardly see Lars comments as a contradiction. Radios are used very differently in road races. Frankly I am not on the side of radio bans as I think the Automaton argument is hardly a credible argument. I think the desire for more exciting racing hinges on more than the radios. There are other possible reasons for the current tactical model than riders obeying a DS like little robots.
