Mostly made for my own purpose but maybe can be of use to find out random stats and things in future..


Anyway, seeing people saying 'why does Boonen have to retire?' today made me think of this:

Am I making this up or was there a rider who semi-retired - he just raced the classics and didn't race after April for a few seasons? Or retired after Roubaix and then came back the next year to do the classics...
I definitely have a memory of something like that, though maybe it was just a fan suggestion somebody had for some retiring cobbled classics guy.

Not exactly the scenario you mentioned, but Frederic Guesdon, the 1997 Roubaix winner, never did much of note during the years I've followed cycling other than placing top 10-20 every year in Paris-Roubaix. And I seem to remember he retired after the race in, what, 2012?
