FYI: - Austria′s anti-doping watchdog said Monday it would start procedures against a number of athletes and trainers for their involvement with a controversial blood laboratory in Vienna.

It was the latest step in a large doping investigation triggered by disgraced Tour de France rider Bernhard Kohl, who has admitted to having his blood taken at the Humanplasma lab for the purpose of blood doping.

Humanplasma has confirmed that it had taken blood from some 30 athletes between 2003 and 2006, but denied involvement in doping, as the blood was not re-injected on the laboratory's premises.

The head of the NADA doping agency, Andreas Schwab, did not say whether foreign athletes are also under investigation, but explained that this would be the responsibility of the international WADA agency and national bodies.

Good! Now if they can just move things along more quickly. I'm tired of these cases dragging out forever so the culprits keep racing on and on.

Anybody have any guesses as to the 30-some names on the list?

Phew. I looked at a couple of articles, and one named Steffi Graf a few times, but it's a runner named Stephanie Graf.

Kohl, Graf and Co.
Of the 30 athletes who can perform at Human Plasma blood samples, to date only a few become known. In addition to ex-professional cyclist Bernhard Kohl were the ex-athlete Stephanie Graf and Austrian top rowers. Graf, the Olympic runner-up in the 800 meters in 2000, admitted, just before her surprising career end in late 2003 to have been a blood sample from human plasma. The same applies, according to the former national coach Martin Kessler for several Austrian rowers.

Graf and former rowing coach, however, deny that the blood supply to the performance were repatriated later. Kohl, who was given under other lock has a doping offense, according to media reports referred to the drug task force, other athletes as human plasma customers. The company has identified human plasma a few weeks ago the former cross country coach Walter Mayer, the former sports manager Stefan Matschiner and Kessler as the "mastermind" of blood doping practices.

Schwab did not say whether foreign athletes are also among the suspects, but explained that this would be the responsibility of the international WADA agency and national bodies.

Bicycle rider Michael Rasmussen has with his Austrian colleague Bernhard Kohl been associated with the clinic, and a Commission of Inquiry believes that the Dane has been involved in doping buy equipment for more than 100,000 euros.

The ASADA will neither confirm nor deny whether any foreign athletes are among the suspects, but Schwab told Sporten.dk, "If there are cases against foreigners, it is international and the respective national drug agencies to initiate them."

Latest is that some Dutch are involved. The idea that it was limited to all Austrians seemed a little unlikely.

I reckon several from:

Boogerd
T Dekker
E Dekker
Poosthuma
Weening

Would not be surprised if Menchov was on the list somewhere....

Is there anyway these guys for instance prove they had never been to the Humanplasma clinic say via their where about forms to indicate they had never been to Viennia, or in Menchov's case, his passport (or does that not matter once he is in the EU?)?

Some Italian sourcesa are saying that up to 10 of those involved may be cyclists.

The Austrian NADA has just announced it is investigating Christian Pfannberger in connectin with the case (even though he already has a lifelong ban).

Susan
may be it's because of the new anti-doping legislature in austria.

The lab claims to have blood samples from all athletes involved so it should be easy to prove whether they are guilty or not.

He specifically said that the 30-some athletes they were looking at were all Austrian.

It's not 30 austrians, the lab doped about 30 athletes in total. Some of them are surely foreigners and they will be taken care of by WADA.

News: Austria drops the case, it says it can't do anything legally against sporters who took blood doping according to their law. And they have stopped investigation.
Head of dutch anti-doping authority Ram said also that they can't do anything because of the lack of hard evidence.

Seems some people will get away easily

Much like Frank Schleck when he got busted for wiring 7,000 euro to Dr Fuentes...
