Replacing Bottom Bracket

Hi All,

To start with, I am a total newbie when it comes to replacing components on my bike, just starting to dip my toes into it of late. I have added new rear cassette and chain, plus new wheelset recently.
I am currently riding a 2010 Giant TCR Alliance 1, and am looking to replace/upgrade the bottom bracket, due to advise that a better quality bottom bracket being one of the better upgrades to make to this frame, to make the pedal stroke smoother.

It comes stock with a Shimano, internal press fit bottom bracket according the bike specs. Would the Shimano Dura Ace 7900 bottom bracket be:

1. Compatible and easy to install?

and

2. A good quality BB to use?

Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks All

I'm dubious about the advise to replace the BB .....
You might reduce weight a few grams and maybe increase stiffness - but I doubt that either would be noticeable.

Is the BB damaged or have any obvious problems?
Try 'shaking' the BB spindle - up/down and in/out - you might be able to feel a tiny amount of movement but it should not be visible.
Does the BB feel tight or 'crunchy'?

If the BB doesn't have any of these problems, then it is fine.
If there are problems then it might just need a re-grease and adjust, and maybe new bearings.
A LBS should be able to diagnose and fix at a reasonable cost.

Changing BB can be difficult because of getting everything to fit together correctly.
I wouldn't attempt unless someone you trust says they have actually DONE the change themself and can tell you exactly what parts were involved.
