So.... Assuming this is going to happen... What do you want to see, how would you set this up?

Me, I'd want to see....

- 6 hour race window.
- open invite to anyone wanting to race, but with a quAlifying time to secure a spot in the final race day.
- all finalists tested in the build up and at the start.
- live tv coverage for the final session.
- cash purse for top 20 finishers.
- Vegas style razzmatazz
- fireworks.

And podium girls...

Think 20-20 style cycling - easy on the eye, perfect for tv short and easily consumed by viewers, and lucrative.

Sorry if this offends anyone steeped in tradition... ;) and this is tongue in cheek before people get upset...!

Would be funny if Armstrong showed up doped to the gills as no doubt he would be if he got invited.

Dawg and Horner vs Armstrong and Ricco

Delicate and tricky subject... U couldn't allow it to turn into a US Masters style drug fest, so you would have to find someway of implementing controls into it.

God knows what the UCI would think of it...... ;)

I hope it doesn't happen.

Ricco needs help and this kind of circus is not the road to take.

This could actually be the help he is looking for... A chance to ride his bike, hopefully with people looking out for him. And a chance to 'be' part of something... Cause that's what he appears to be missing.

Ricco is going to dope to do this. I will not be watching.

Ricco can ride his bike and enjoy it, but sadly he thinks stuff like this is important.

I'm not so sure he does think it's that important. For some reason I think that this really is a work of trollcraft at it's finest.

Pro-cyclings Wonderlance, if you will.

no way this will be televised, at least not in Italy

it can be streamed live on some of his sponsors website

Ricco should start a rogue cycling league with other black sheep, under strict supervision by CONI and show what serial offenders are capable off clean.

Could be a very interesting clinical trial if he was well paid (by an anti-doping agency or interested benefactor ?) to participate in a controlled study (if it was possible to be controlled) trialling different doping regimes. Ricco would be a perfect subject because his career is over but we know he'd be open to pretty much anything. Could do with a few more volunteers though

"et maintenant le moment de la vérité!!!!...la fusée Cobra, le grand champion de Formigine, 50 metres avant la ligne d'arrivée!...oulala c'est fait!!! il va écraser le record de l'ascension!!!! 55'51'' le temps d'Iban Mayo...et voilà le Cobra!! passe la ligne!!! 54:20!!! Incroyable, le record du Ventoux est battu!!! Riccardo Ricco, quelle performance! C'est magnifique, merci champion! Chapeau!"

Here is my rough translation of Ricco's interview. Ricco sounded bored and tired. His comments on Contador & Valverde are interesting. He's not the cleverest but he does have the immense amount of ambition.

--

Ricco interviewed in the office of his lawyers.

Talking about his upcoming book written by acclaimed French academic (Lombardo) but a fan of Ricco's.

Book written in French but will be translated into Italian and released at the end of June.

Ricco spent a lot of time with Lombardo and the book should reflect is true character.

Ricco doesn't like to read that much but has read two chapters of this book and is "classico" :)

Ricco has been riding in France (non sanctioned events) and has had a lot of support which he misses.

Will challenge record for Mt. Ventoux, believes if any professional rider trained specifically for Ventoux record they could break it.

Ricco said he's more stronger than 5 years ago and should break Mayo's record. Doing minimum of 4 hours training everyday.

Asked if he had been offended or had aggression toward him when out riding; Ricco said he had not. Nothing but support.

What is your message now? "Keeping myself healthy and fit and if you like to ride the you can. No one can take that away from you".

Not spoken to Piepoli since 2008. Name not actually mentioned.

Doesn't feel guilty as was doing what most were doing around him. Couldn't vouch for anyone today doing it "clean".

Friends from cycling? "None".

Refused go talk about Sassi because of his death. But there's a story which may never be told.

Believes Valverde & Contador are the most talented (by far) but Froome "doesn't convince me" but "goes very fast" :)

Always loved Salvodelli for his modesty, kindness and honesty.

Basso now feels his age but was always very professional.

Armstrong, huge (grande) champion and very sad what happened to him and because he won 7 Tours. Must be considered a champion because anyone can take drugs but not everyone can win 7 Tours in succession.

Believes the ambiance of "doping" is the same maybe just different or a little less than 2008.

This years Tour? Froome vs Contador or can Nibali win? "Nibali, no, not this year, no. It will be either Contador or Valverde".

Said his career was about sacrifices. Doping doesn't mean you don't train. "Sacrifices what got me here not what I took".

Saying he was like Pantani was a joke. Never meant to be serious. "I don't want to compare myself to someone else, I just want to myself".

All I do now in cycle and spend time with my son. I will not make him be a rider! His son name is Alberto but not like Contador! (mothers choice).

Same masseur as Pantani's gave him the name Cobra. Head down then 'attack'.

If you could choice one race to race now what would it be? "The Tour", "it's the one race where people can see Ricardo Ricco!"

What will you do in ten years? "I don't even knew what I'm doing tomorrow".

If they lessen your ban do you have information to provide on doping? "Yes there is more but there must be a reduction in my ban for me to say".

Let's hope he doesn't go the same way as Pantani and Jiminez. At least he has his wife and son though, unlike El Chava and Il Pirata.

What was the tone of the article like? Does he seem depressed or just moving on? My Italian isn't good enough to pick up on those nuances.

He sounded bored but the interviewer was asking stupid questions. Not sure what he wants to do with his life other than the Fondo accent.

(And name the other 32 positives for CERA from the 2008 Tour!)
