rides in San Juan, PR?

I will be in San Juan in mid-July, and would love to be able to join some group rides.

Does anyone know of any rides that would be about 18-20mph?

If so, wondering if it is worth bringing my road bike (and paying the Man at the airlines) or if there is a place to rent a competitive road bike?

Hi Brent. I ride and race on the West Coast of PR. I am not very familiar with riding in the SJ area, but do know that there are a lot of strong cyclists out there. I also know that traffic in many areas around there is very heavy, so you really need to hook up with a group of locals who are knowledgeable. I'd recommend calling up some of the better bike shops in the area and asking to see if they can hook you up with some of the faster riders. You can start with these:

Ciclo-Mundo (in Guaynabo) - 787-763-4369

Bike Stop (San Juan) - 787-782-2282

Bike (San Juan) - (787) 765-1798

Probable best bet for you would be:

B Bike - 787-727-1233

They are located in Isla Verde which is the heart of the tourist area. They should be able to help you out.

Hope this helps.

my personal impression of SJ as el turista was... WAY too MUCH of el tráfico. I considered doing a bike tour around the island, but opted for cars, boats, and feet after I saw the roads.

locals of course know how to make it happen I'm sure though.

beautiful island, i had some good times.

Yes, there is a lot of traffic in SJ, but there are lots of folks riding also as the sport has grown a lot in popularity here. As I said above, I'd call the shops before coming over to see if its worthwhile.

I live and ride mostly along the west and southern coast where we have many kms of roads with light traffic and lots of really neat climbs.
