Strong rumours on twitter about Shayne Bannan being arrested in Italy about 2 months ago for possesing PED's.

Any thoughts?

I will laugh my ass off about it if it is true. So will everybody--if there is anyone--who is still at Pegasus.

If it's true it doesn't just bring GreenEdge under instant suspicion - but anyone who has moved through the track program.

Susan - doing some journalism or deciding whether or not the thread can live?

Are you suggesting I should have thought that ACF was making this whole thing up? That there were no twitter rumours?

Susan

No, I'm not suggesting anything!

Well, an arrest is something that could actually be confirmed. If it was just a loose rumour about someone having seen something that could never be verified then that would not be very strong but something like this is less likely to be made up since it could so easily be refuted. I wonder if anyone will look into this with the italian police.

Things have changed in Italy. There are a lot of anti-doping investigations. An arrest would certainly be made public, somehow.

Regarding the http://www.newcyclingpathway.com/ website: it doesn't even load in my browser. What have they done to become credible?

Wrote a book, done research, hosted a comprehensive anti-doping conference featuring the likes of Sassi and Ashenden (amongst a raft of others). If anyone knows what's going on with Cycling Australia (doping or otherwise) it's these people.

Okay, that seems to be a great deal. I was wrong about them just being a website. Next question: if they are so connected to everything and everyone in the realm of cycling, why can't they get any confirmation of this?

Suppose it's true and Bannan is arrested due to carrying "undisclosed medicines" into Italy and those medicines appear to be illegal. It would be likely that some people within Cycling Australia would know of this, right? Would they appoint him as the leader of the most prestigious and eye-catching project they have?

Cycling Australia do't have an involvement in Greenedge. He is setting it up with others. So he wasn't appointed to anything.

Also you could say that CA would have interests in keeping such a thing quiet.

Yeh, if Bannan disappeared from cycling, questions would be asked. If those questions uncovered this rumoured arrest, leading to questions of doping in the track program, CA would have a nightmare on their hands.
