Scarponi

Bye bye Scarponi?

Dutch: http://www.nusport.nl/wielrennen/2937877/scarponi-werkte-intensief-samen-met-ferrari.html

English: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/gazzetta-reveal-police-taps-of-dr-ferrari-and-michele-scarponi

According to the articles, Scarponi contacted Ferrari after the 2010 Giro, saying he could've won if he'd had a better program. Ferrari answered Scarponi would've had better chances had he used a blood bag. Ferrari was already a banned doctor at the time, so Scarponi could go down for life for this one.

Could this eventually make Vincenzo Nibali the 2011 Giro champion?

Gee Red Rick are you trying to join the hogs "newbies and rookies"?

Scarponi can have his own thread - got nothing to do with USADA or LA.

I'm puzzled.

Is Scarponi clean or not? I mean. He's going to altitude, but didn't have a blood bag?

I know what circle and circle with dot mean, but what's an asterisk?

How is he coming 4th at the Giro - is he doing that clean?

He came 4th this year again too.

whatever he's using it's not a huge efect, just like with any other rider currently. he might have old mentality though, then he should go

Wait, does this mean that the guy who was banned from doping, came back and suddenly was a million times better than pre-suspension, is a doper? Such a surprise!

Would be funny if they now give the 2011 Giro to Nibali instead...

Poor Scarponi. Everyone comes back to doping basics, but inside arises only in his regard...

On the bright side, it's a pretty good sign if he could finish 4th in a GT without a BB, although his start of the race Hb may have been heavily Edgared for all we know.

It's not long ago contenders were doing 3 BB's/GT.

It looks like half-liter bb's were replaced by 150 gram ones and under this signboard cycling was declared clean.

Funny that Nibali and Pellizotti's supposed links to Ferrari were never substantiated. They might as well hand over the win to Gadret

"There is evidence that Dr. Ferrari, in the weeks preceding the Tour de France, rode on a scooter between Livigno and Saint Morritz following a number of riders, including Nibali and Pellizotti, with a stopwatch in hand," said Fanini, according to La Repubblica.

The dutch article states that Scarponi literally said to Ferrari: "I could've won if i had another bloodbag".

Then it´s compareable to Bernhard Kohl 2008. His doctor Mark Schmidt advised him to use his third blood bag, he didn´t, and afterwards, Kohl claimed he could have won the Tour if he had used it.

Three blood bags seem to be standard for a GT, at least for the leaders, plus one bag two or three days before the prologue.

When I look at this year´s Tour, not an easy task. One bag takes two to three days to show good effects. I guess Sky had some discussion about when it´s best to use them. Maybe Brailsford should call Prudhomme and beg him to create 2013´s route more comfortable for the bag reinfusions, so they can be done exactly on day 5, 11 and 17, and not exactly on the days of hard mountain stages.

Oh, didn´t see your post... Yes, that sounds reasonable, makes it much easier to fine-tune the applications.

So Ryder beat a doped Scarponi. Viva la clean.

Now if we could just explain how there's no diurnal variation between 7am and 6pm in Ryder's Hgb and Hct, and how his retic% jumps 25%...

whatever they are doping (scaproni) it's obviously in mini forms. it's more their state of mind and mentality that can't go without the juice

Ah that's the "more about that later" you promised the other day is it ? What's your source ?

Scarponi to me has always been on the dirty side of the sport-no matter how much or little his program is nowadays. He seems to embrace the "dirty old school" approach & perhaps is time for him to step out of the sport for good. His return to cycling was successful & made some money to carry on with his life.

Data for Ryder comes from captainbag - JV emailed them to him direct.
Diurnal variation comes from my research and the free text studies I can find - which are thin on the ground.

I tweeted CaptainBag - see what he says. I am putting together a little tutorial on blood, then the ABP, then retro test the released values. That's why it's taking time - looking for solid studies to back up the expected behaviour of blood markers.
