1. Merckx
2. Hinault
3. Coppi
4. Anquetil
5. Kelly

Something like that i'd say. Hard to know what to do with Binda. His dominance can't be denied but cycling was fairly localised in those days as opposed to international.

I presumed Lance was #1.

;)

If not, it is nonsense not to have him in this poll. Not that I think he should be 1.

Indurain can be here, but not Wonderboy? Give me a break...

Also feel like this have been done before. And that I stated something very similar then:p

A very good list, for me Gimondi is nr. 5 and not Kelly, but i have to agree with the rest.

yup Lance>>>>>Indurain not sure how anyone can argue otherwise.

5. Poulidor ;)

For #2, Hinault, no question. #5 to Poupou for his two decades at the top, but realistically, Bartali or LeMond (without the hunting accident, the '87 and '88 TdFs would have been his). I liked the Philippe Thys mention.

My $0.02 on some posts as it relates to eras: cycling in the 50's was at its most glamourous, in the 70's it was at its best. More props to Eddy for dominating the sport as he did. Back then, it was easy to vote for the Cyclist of The Year :D

If you put Indurain, you have to put Lance.

I don't like him but we need to be objective.:)

Objectively, Indurain has won five consecutive Tours and two Giri (and done the Giro-Tour double twice), a World and an Olympic ITT, a fair few week-long stage races, a Clásica de San Sebastián and a Critérium International.

Objectively, Armstrong has won, what, a rainbow jersey on the road and a national road championship, a Flèche Wallone and a Tour of Luxemburg, and a couple of Tour stages?

Add as many asterisks as you like to Indurain's palmarès, he remains the winner of those races.
