absolute fantastic interview with henao. his biggest dream is not to win the tour de france but to win roubaix. wow! he asked sky himselfe to ride 3 days of west-flanders and I remember him to be the only colombian rider to have finished tour of flanders u23 and that was back when he was 57 kg instead of 62 :)

I don't think the interview has been posted here and I decided to do here as people seemed surprised henao was doign 3 days of west-flanders. it also shows what a greta mentor and director botero is

also soemone here said henao would maybe do vuelta or no gt at all this year. I think it was teamskyfans. wel wrong...

yeah he will 100% do the giro. I read intevriew with him back in januayr already saying he would and he also gave his entire program. he would go back in march to colombia to prepare for april in which he will ride pais vasco, lbl and then the giro.

his itt is average but it's not important in the coming giro. though he's not bad in them either. shorter itt's suit him very well and he won't have trouble with a ttt. I think sky will have him work on it too so he will improve. he is also VERY fast and I think that will only improve. compare him to cunego I'd say. he's that type of rider. incredibly explosive as we saw also in utah last year. and he's a good technical rider. steering, downhilling and manoevring/placing himself

Cool interview. I'll try to remember to look for him during the cobbled races or in the results.

Thanks for the link to a great interview. The guy on Cycling Inquisition is always worth reading. I remember on Henao's profile on the old Colombia Es Pasion website he gave his ambitions as 'podium the 3 Grand Tours and win Paris-Roubaix'. Let's hope he gets to try one day.

Here are the results of the U-23 Tour of Flanders Henao rode, for anyone interested. He was 39th; Pantano also finished, 52nd in a group with Kittel.

39 out of 58, 9 minutes back. Was it his first taste of the cobbles?

yes and never since. he was also a much different rider back then. I think it changed a lot in him because after it he went to antioquia and with botero gained a lot of muscle. became more of a power rider. even more explosive but somewhat strong less in the real long climbs in colombia(will have to see how that goes in europe) flanders would be more his thing though but it's very revolutionary to have a colombian rider want to win roubaix. so riding that tour of flanders u23 was something he must've foudn incredible challenge in

Experience counts but winning Roubaix is still a bit of a lofty goal for a rider of his characteristics. Does he say anywhere why he thinks he can win Roubaix?

Or am I taking his dream more seriously than he is?

Have to add that it's great that a rider from Colombia seems interested in a race like Roubaix. I just think it's more of a "dream" dream.

his dream is serious as are all his goals in cycling. winning roubaix he has a small chance for sure. flanders he could win just like a rebellin, di luca and or boogerd could've won and bartoli did win it

80. GADRET John ALM 03'25" in Romandie TT

and in the mountaineous TT in Giro which could be compared to henao's prologue win :
16. GADRET John ALM 01'27"
beaten by half a minute byguys like Tiralongo, SAMOILAU and MIHOLJEVIC

Of course all Gadret's races were WT but his level of results are still much lower than Henao's, as shown specifically by the Giro mountain TT where though he was probably 5th top climber he only finished 16th even though Scarponi finished on the podium and Rujano in 4th.
Henao may not be a great TT but Gadret is awful.

Luckily Henao isn't Anglophone, because then Ryo would have told him what an idiot he is to think he can win Paris-Roubaix.

Utah prologue?

That was about 30kmh average.

He is probably better than Gadret but it's definitely a weak spot.

no one is denieing that. only he's a lot better than gadret in itt and in short itt's he especially won't lose much. because he's explosive and technical
