Shorts or Bibs for Indoor Trainer?

I've almost always used shorts while training indoors just because I thought the profuse sweating and more time in the saddle (relative to the constant shifting in and out of the saddle when riding outside) may cause excessive wear on my more prized bibs. Shorts also tend to be cheaper.

What are your thoughts - shorts or bibs or makes no difference?

I use bibs and light undershirt and a mega sized fan for indoor training. However my bibs are usually "battle damaged" from crashes and the like. Not decent for use in public but still perfectly useable in the "pain chamber".

Indoor training is all battle damaged bib usage as Tapeworm states, no need in buying new shorts for the turbo trainer or rollers. If they're too thin and you want extra padding wear two, yea you might sweat more but at least you'll have some quick and dirty weight loss due to water loss ;)

Definitely shorts - much cooler and typical indoor intervals sessions are between 45 and 75 mins so the extra support and comfort from bibs so valuable on long rides isn't really needed - the sole purpose of indoor intervals is to suffer so bad you get out of body experiences anyways so comfort ain't a factor ;)

X2 for bibs that I'd no longer wear in public plus huge fan and no shirt.

Hugh

That's a good idea. I have bibs with rips and tears I don't ride outside anymore.

I always use shorts, specifically those that can't be worn out in public anymore, because, as others said, I don't want to wear out my good bibs. That and I'm currently phasing out from shorts to bibs so I don't mind extra wear on the shorts. I don't find it an issue not wearing the good bibs/shorts because the sessions usually aren't long enough to notice.

Do not have an indoor trainer but started using spin bikes in gym for interval training on rainy days.

very rapidly learnt yesterday that the one thing you do not do is wear normal gym gear. walking like a cowboy this morning
