Should I put L-Arginine in my Water Bottle?

I'm 65 and starting to feel the weight of the years.

I ride 3-4 times a week, 2 hours minimum each session, solo and on group rides. All rides include at least 2-3,000 ft of climbing ( I live on Maui). This year I find find I'm getting dropped more easily.

I just read this study that showed that L-Arginine was of benefit to older cyclists. http://www.jissn.com/content/7/1/13

I'm thinking of adding 5g L-Arginine together with vitamins C & E to my water bottles as it should improve blood flow and oxygenation.

Has anyone else tried this?

Hi
I am 65 also and have been trying L Arginine since Christmas last year.

I am not so sure it is as good as they claim It reduces salt and increces potasium so as expected it can cause problems in hot weather.

I take it in capsual form 1 gram at night it will make you sleep no running to the loo in the night.
I also take it 1 gram in morning before training or racing .

It will keep blood presure down so it will keep Doctor happy but side effects are heavy legs and muscle soarness.

Try it in low dose first and dont expect it to produce groath hormone at 65 it dosnt happen. The nitric oxide is good for circulation it didnt increace my Heart rate much but I am told it improves heart circulation so it will pump better.

i use l-arginine esterified creatine l-glutamine beta-alanine b.c.a.a.'s l-theanine l-trptophan l-tyrosine etc... very useful particularly in conjunction with eachother. for speed power endurance recovery and mental state aminos are great besides for competition i take them daily i just feel better.

as it lowers your blood pressure, maybe not in the bottle. it is good for putting
lead in your pencil. i am very late 50's and use it for that and it does help a lot.
it is a poor mans testosterone. better in recovery.

Why don't you just go to your doctor and get a prescription for testosterone gel or cream?

http://www.isitlowt.com/

Why screw around with stuff that doesn't work rather than get something that's medically supervised and most likely will give you a boost?

Wow. Everything but extract of cortisone. No wonder you are always defending Armstrong's dope use.

You should put water in the water bottle. And drink chocolate milk for recovery. Until you're 90. Then add more chocolate milk.

Or check out the EPO, testo, HgH program which will make all the difference in the world. Head to a good anti-aging clinic and talk to the good doctors.

Is it legal?

Can it hurt?

Answers should be yes, and no. If they are, then give it a shot, all you've got to lose is your wallet.

And, btw, most supplements are just expensive ****. But, sometimes, just sometimes, "alternatives" work.

Totally agree. I'm coming up on 89, and have modified my diet to the point where it' pretty much strictly cocao. I've had to resort to going on a 2 hour IV chocolate milk drip daily, but thankfully I've got a great mainline on the inside of my thigh. No tracks for my riding buddies to remark at...

Nothing new to add, apart from the fact that my 100% cocao diet is making this thread more and more hilarious...

Long live the cocao bean!

Anyone just checking this thread should follow it from the begining...

look i'm all for legal,PEDs but is this the right place to be admitting to the use of 100% cacao? did you know it was 100% cacao when you first started importing it across the border from a spanish chocolat shop whilst racing in france? do you seriously expect us to to believe that you thought it was only 70% cacao, and why didn't your team mates show positive signs (sticky brown residue round the mouth is a giveaway) were you to greedy to share?

I'm 48 and a junior by comparison, and I use a mix of L-Arginine and L-Ornithine before training and before I go to bed. I'm told, that in the absence of other dominant amino acids, this combo can cross the blood brain barrier and stimulate the production of human growth hormone. Mixing it with other proteins inc amino acids dramatically reduces its effectiveness (apparently).

L-Arginine tastes terrible to me but it's OK mixed with L-Ornithine which tastes like powdered sugar.

And by doing all this, you hope to gain what exactly? A few higher placings in your masters class Time Trial??

"Oh, you may stray, but you'll always return to your dark master... The cocoa bean! And only the purest syrup nectar can satisfy you. If you could, you'd guzzle it by the gallon... Ovaltine!? Hershey's!? Nestle's Quick!?"

Errr, no. The point is to stay healthier for longer by assisting the natural processes of human growth hormone production as it slows down with age. HGH is pretty much the anti-aging hormone for us soon-to-be-oldies. I cycle for fitness, I compete for motivation to stay fit and I take simple supplements to help me stay fitter for longer.

I plan to live until I'm 132 years old. So far so good.

So....132. You're an endurance guy, huh? I'll be a dead sprinter long before then.

So ha-ha. I'll get to the finish line first!

Again. Water and chocolate milk.

Ironically enough, my grandson imports cocao to the Canary Islands. Since the clen ring got busted, his business has gone up 10-fold!

Interesting. Any tangible effect or would you say its possibly just placebo?

Alright when I see the 132yr old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket, I'll say hi :D
(Seriously, the only problem w/ your plan is you'll have to work till 100 just so you can have enough $ for retirement....)
