Shoulder dislocated

I dislocated my shoulder few days ago while I was cycling. I don't experience pain all the time but when I stretch my arms, it pains so bad. On a visit to a professional consultant, I was asked to get proper rest. I'm very athletic, so I'm very much worried about my shoulder and can't just stay home for long. One of my friends has also been experiencing the same problem and what he did was he underwent a shoulder dislocation treatment in a clinic in Mississauga and he says it got him great relief. However I hope to see the specialist again and do MRI scan in the first place. Before that I would like to have some advice on this. Has anyone got similar experiences?

Did you have a physician examime your shoulder? Was any medication / steroids / etc. prescribed? Any physio therapy?

For the time being, don't do stretches or exercise that cause pain. Light stretching w/o pain is probably ok to increase blood flow to the damaged tissue to improve the healing process. Be careful to avoid raising your arm higher than your shoulder - especially when sleeping.

If your shoulder hurts continuously, ask whether use of a sling for a while is needed to prevent further damage, until adequately healed.

Don't be in a rush and try to 'tough it out' - not getting good healing NOW will result in a lifetime of problems.
