I thought I would start a Sky V Garmin 2011 thread to ask people who would get more wins. Garmin is already up 1-0. So wo will get more wins?

You counting nats here? well sky has UK one guaranteed so thats 1-1 and it will be an interesting duel for the Norwegian one.

But outside nats, Garmin, obviously. Is there a catch here? i mean they totaly wooped sky last year, and though sky have improved, Garmin have improved tremendously.

ITs EBH vs Farrar, Haussler, Hushovd.

Its Gerrans vs Millar

Its Wiggins and Uran vs Vandevelde, Lemevel, Heysdal and probably another surprise somewhere.

Garmin Cervelo easy.

Are you trying to wind up dim;)

You know if he wants revenge he can start a Team Lux vs Bmc poll :p

Easily Garmin. They have gotten rid of the dead weight on their roster and replaced them with top top riders while Sky also has improved but mostly in ways that give solid stage race results rather that many wins.

Partially to wind up dim :eek:and because someone mentioned Garmin getting first of many wins and sky having first of many stuff ups in 2011.

Was trying to wind him up on twitter but he is asleep dreaming about Wiggy and Thomas :D

I wouldn't say Garmin wooped Sky last year. It was 27-22 which is a solid win but not a crushing win.

And Nationals have usually always counted towards UCI wins when such things were officially counted in the past and right now I would go by CQrankings rules who still use the old UCI system of counting. This means nationals count but crits and things like points and KOM don't.

The interesting question is whether any team will start closing in on HTC who have dominated the victory ranking since they took over T-Mobile and moved the team to the US for the 2008 season. In the past three years they have 226 wins and the second team is Saxo Bank with 129.

I don't think there's much rivalry between these teams except maybe when it comes to TTT.

Both Garmin and Cervelo already had a rivalry with HTC so that's probably even stronger now (and HTC will likely still get more wins than the newly combined team).

When it comes to Sky vs. Garmin, I just hope we get to see healthy, fit versions of Haussler and EBH meet up this year:)

I don't really get the rivalry here either.
Garmin vs htc is more evident. But I don't think gamin will have such a drastic improvement (I'n total wins I mean) Haussler and thor are great additions but they don't win a whole lot. Id predict a figure close to 35

Htc will not be as strong tho, or so I presume. Andre the giant won them quite a lot.

I think garmin will win the head to head battle with sky but it is still to be seen if they will win any of the top races on the cycling calendar.

HTC won't win as many races in past years but I would still expect them to have the highest number of wins. But who knows cycling is full of surprises

Well Hayden Roulston HTC won NZ champs before Bobridge (Garmin) won Aust Champs. Henderson 2nd in NZ and Dean (Garmin) didn't have a good day. In NZ Bewley and Sergeant (both Radioshack youngbloods) in top ten.
So HTC 1 Garmin 1 and Sky still looking skywards.

I predict Goss winning quite a few stages this year though. Probably not as much as Greipel, but plenty. HTC wins are pretty much almost bunch sprints.

Yup, very silly question, a bit like asking whether Man Utd or Barcelona will win more English Premierleague titles - the answer is obvious, and doesn't really mean a great deal.

Garmin are built for sprints and finishing 3rd/4th/5th on cobbles races, whereas sky are utterly overloaded with nearly GC men.

I expect Garmin to win plenty of races, come up just short where it really matters but generally have a decent season they can be proud of.

I also expect sky to do a lot better, get a top 10 in 2 Grand Tours, and see EBH and Uran take significant steps forward.

I think that sums it up, sky have signed riders that will help them perform better in stage races, wheras garmin are basically two teams combined.

Will Garmin and Cervelo combined win more races than Sky in 2011

Undoubtedly.

That said, 22 wins last year, Sky performed pretty damn well. (Garmin had 27.. hardly a complete drubbing)

1-1-1 Sky won the NSW GP Series, winning three of the five races along the way.

It really is a silly question. If Garmin-Cervelo don't win a ton load of races this year then they will be an utter failure

and I define a ton as in 40-50

In that case Goss winning Bay Crits makes it 2-1-0 :D

2-1-1 :D - only counting the series win

Russ Downing won the team sky training ride in Majorca the other day.

2-1-2

Again their addition shouldn't result I'n this expectation. Rather they should pose more of a threat I'n the northen classics. Their expectations should certainly increase in this area...

It is ignorant if you think haussler and hushovd should mean 20+ more wins.

A similar season to last year, with a few higher places in more prestigious races should mean a successful season IMO.

Btw the riders coming from cervelo got like... 5 wins I'n total (about the same amount hunter and tuft got garmin this year) But yes 50 wins for garmin or epic epic fail ;)

Ya, I would say they could probably break 30 wins if they have the same type of outcomes as last year but 40-50 wins is very rare by any team historically except HTC in the last few years who have broken the mold.

The Idea of success being measured purely by number of wins is a little arbitrary for me. I know it influences rankings a great deal but in terms of returning for your sponsor or simply being a success in the cycling world 'what' you win takes precedent over how many you win.

In terms of who will do the best in terms of big wins in the calender, personally I feel Garmin have a better equipped squad to return a monument win or good GC placing at a grand tour.

If Uran and EBH deliver what is said they can this could be different story. Barring those two I dont't see they potential to take big wins, next year at least.

Flecha? Not exactly a winner, but he's always there in the big races.
