So....cav outside time limit but race organisers let him stay in TDF

From the report on Stage 18:

Cyclingnews article on stage 18 said:
The grupetto made it to the finish line within the time limit. Green jersey Mark Cavendish of HTC-Highroad was behind that group, and actually finished outside the time limit. The race jury allowed him to stay in the race but deducted 20 points from his total. He now leads Movistar's Joaquin Jose Rojas by only 15 points.

They just deducted points from his green jersey lead......this was introduced into the Vuelta a few years back when i believe Greipel finished outside the limit, but they let him stay in.

Your thoughts?.....should he be in or out

Since such a big group was outside the time limit, I think they should let them stay in, but just take all points from all those riders for the point and KOM classifications. It is not fair that someone who shouldnt be in the tour anymore wins a sideclassification.

So.....if he's outside again tomorrow that's another 20pts deduction and we are set up for a grand finale in Paris?

Out. This smacks of typical cycling corruption where the rules change depending on who the rider is. At the very least finishing outside the time limit should be a whopping big point deduction, like 100 points.

That's right. I can't believe ASO didn't punish the rest of the group he finished with and eliminated them all by pushing them off the top of the Galibier. Absolutely disgraceful. I hate cycling omg.

I'll say one thing for you, at least you are consistent. Consistently intemperate and consistently wrong.

According to CN he finished outside the group. I guess he should have hung on to his team car a little more.

It also means others in the grupetto in the future that know the rules...could just sit back and see the whole team of the jersey wearer have to do all the pulling...knowing they wont get kicked out and will get as much of a free ride as possible

out.

i think it's ridiculous that they let him ride when others who have cycled their heart out have been thrown out in previous stages.

that said, i think tightening the time gaps was insane in the first place. still, rules are rules. the fact that they won't apply it here, just shows what BS the rules are when it might exclude one of their favourites

Inconsistancies.... report says he finished behind the groupetto, results show him finishing towards the front of it?

He finished 96th so there were 72 riders behind him.

The riders know the rules unfortunately several posters don't

You are advertising your prejudice and ignorance in one go.

I understand why they don't remove all these riders from the tour...but I will say, that in my opinion non of them should be allowed to be in competition for a side jersey (green, white, polka). I don't care who the rider is...as I have been accused of disliking certain riders.

there were like 88 riders in the bus, including Gilbert. If there are that many riders outside the time limit you should let them stay
