Very poor positioning from Viviani.

And as a result loses red.

Yep, I expected more, especially on a relatively easy run in.

He was on Modolo's wheel but somebody gave him the slightest nudge ever and he completely gave up.

Sounds like we have another Greipel... :)

Maybe lampre will start helping to chase the breakaway in the last stage. Now that modolo is statistically the best sprinter

Basso said on Processo della Tappa he means to be more present in the next few stages.
Plus he said he is not proud - if TS want him to pull first he'll do so, and then otb.

what do you mean? is he meant to be saving his energy for the last two hard mountain stage? or TS decides to put him on the front pulling on the flat because he wasn't strong enough on the mountain?

Some observations:

[] Watching Paolini descend giant-slalom through those big hairpins on those deep dishes was a bello sight, until the camera motorbike blocked him.

[] Steam Sky have been washed away from all classifiche; even the minor ones. Some Conti-pro wild-card teams have been more successful. Yesterday, Sky's latest 'leader' was hit with time & fines for hanging on to cars. Povero.

[] Italia's only WorldTour team - Lampre - have won 4 of 17 stages, with three (3) different riders. Impressive.

[] It's a desperate time for some teams, I think a dozen have no wins at all. We may see some huge, sacrificial efforts coming up. For example, today, Zakarin finishes more than 9 minutes down (how is that possible on a short, flat, sub-3 hr, tailwind stage?). Saving every watt for tomorrow?
