Stan's ZTR Arch 29 rims

Anyone run on the Arch rims? I'm interested in any thoughts on their durability and, if you run tubeless, whether you use UST or regular tires. I'm pretty easy on rims, my off-road riding is XC with the odd small drop so I expect they would stand up to my form of abuse.

I've had one on the back of my rig for two years with no problems. I have not been very kind to it, but it has done well.
I've had a few tires over this period, some UST, some not. At the moment a set of Bontrager 29-3s with TLR casings are mounted on the wheels of the bike, and have been the best yet of any tire I've used in the last 6 years all things considered.

Good to hear. If you run standard tires tubeless, what setup do you prefer? The rim strip or just the tape and valve stem?

You might want to consider the Flow. at 28m width and tubeless your tires can get a larger contact area and run a little less pressure with confidence.

Great products from notubes.

I can't think of a better set up than Stans laced to Hope hubs

I've been running one on the front for a couple of months, as expected no issues so far. I ride mainly XC, though our trails are a long way from groomed bike park-style riding - babyheads to boulders and rock steps are the order of the day, but I don't ride 'drops' higher than a couple of feet. FWIW my old wheel built with a Mavic 317 never needed truing in nearly 4 years of the same sort of use. Changed a Hope Pro2/ Stans Arch as my old wheel was QR and I needed a 15mm through-axle hub to go with my new fork.

I'm running the rim with a UST tire (Conti Mountain King 2.4) for a little extra protection from sidewall cuts. The rims are set up tubeless using only the thin yellow stans tape and a 'ghetto' valve, i.e. cut from an old inner tube, no removable core. The tire aired up first go with a track pump without any sealant or soapy water, though I have since added sealant.

+7 to that statement :D

That's exactly what I've been running for 2 yrs now, tubeless 29er. Zero issues.

Running maxxis tires with no problems yet. Except for muddy situations but one is hard pressed to get a good all around xc tire to do well there.

Have run some pretty low pressures, no flats to date.

Do you run the flow or arch?

In full disclosure they aren't flow or arch rims.

Think they're ZTR 355...but they are Stans and laced to Hope Pro 2s, so I was just riffin' off your post :D

I ordered the Arch before I saw the post about the Flow, but the Arch is probably more suited to my game anyway. I'll lace them to a set of Hope XC hubs that are holding up well after about 5 years. So now to take this thread in a new angle - any recommendations for tires? I was thinking of UST but I haven't tried them before, usually just run standard tires tubeless.

I don't worry too much about UST IMHO

I run Maxxis Ardent 2.4 tubeless which is big.

However I don't like the way the Ardent 2.25 hooks up up front however

When pure XC I go with the Maxxis Aspen. It rolls well and corners well I run them front and rear because they bead well tubeless. for me anyway and have had no issues tubeless. the Aspen comes in a 2.1

So far I'm pretty impressed. I put on some Conti Mtn King 2.2's and it seems to be a great setup for local trails. Loving the low pressure I can run with the tubless setup but the best part was that it just worked the first time. No hiccups in the setup. Never did find the Aspen locally, might give that one a shot next time.

I am a big fan of tubeless and low pressure. Has changed the way I approach mountainbiking

Have you tested lower psi?

did you set the beads yourself?

I don't know what pressure I'm running TBH, I've been going by feel instead of a gauge. Way lower than anything I've run before though. I put one on the front of a rigid singlespeed 96'r and was thankful for the grip and the beating I didn't get on the washboards.

I set it up without the soapy water step, just pumped some fluid through the stem, shook it, set it down and it took like a charm.
