Sweet! The UCI may be good for something afterall

New rules for aero bottles.

Article 1.3.024 states: “Bottles shall not be integrated to the frame and may only be located on the down and seat tubes on the inside of the frame. The maximum dimensions of the cross-section of a bottle used in competition must not exceed 10 cm or be less than 4 cm and their capacity must be a minimum of 400 ml and a maximum of 800 ml.”

The triathletes are up in arms about it, so that pretty much means that I support it.

I'm confused. Does that mean that this would or wouldn't be allowed?

Bro, my rules would have one of those snap-clamps mounted on the back of the Schwinns (over the rear tyre) where the water bottles would be held. This would result in more crashes as riders try to get bottle clamped down on the back of their bikes. This, as you know, results in more media coverage, as everyone wants to see crashes (just check Versus/USN coverage promos if you don't believe it). More crashes, more bux = better sport.

Good change, now TT specialists will just refrain from bringing water and get seriously dehydrated as a result! :p

Unless, of course, the UCI forces riders to use water bottles.

The maximum dimensions of the cross-section of a bottle used in competition must not exceed 10 cm or be less than 4 cm and their capacity must be a minimum of 400 ml and a maximum of 800 ml.

One could interpret the above to demand a bottle be on the bike.

Surely then it would be "the bottle".

As I interpret this you could still have an aero bottle. In fact (although I don't believe this is what they mean) you could have something 10cm deep and 1cm wide or as narrow as you like while keeping 400ml capacity (because no minimum dimension is given). Only thing you can't do is integrate the bottle into the frame a la Cervélo.

Says nothing about cylindrical bottles.

Well, my join date predates yours, so yeah.

...BTW, any reason for your blank post in my new rules thread? Aside from matching the contents of your mind?

The maximum dimension must not be less than 4cm, says nothing about the minimum dimension. As I said, doubt that's what they meant though. TBH a bottle of cross-section 10cm x 4cm would still look like an aero bottle anyhow.

It seems pretty clear to me that a cross section cannot be less than 4cm.

They should have gone with a round cross section.

Another pointless rule. Congratulations, the UCI just banned 1l bottles.

And bottles less than 400ml. So I'm guessing the UCI cops will be making sure everyone has a bottle on their rig.

Does this have any implications for Camelbaks ("fronts")?

Actually that may be what ScottSoCal was getting at.

The only reason why I'm the only one replying your stupid comments about cyclists who should crash to the benefit of the sport is because I haven't blocked you yet. That kid I posted reflects less nonsense than you have done all day.

Bye.

I've never understood the hate towards triathletes, I mean if I hated them, I probably wouldn't ride with anybody and lose some friends as well.

I've lost count the amount of times I've done that on long training rides when I don't want to throw it on the ground and thus litter.
