MVDP weighs much less, check his face, it's like Evenepoel at Dauphine and at TDF difference. He also doesn't have a long peak from WC CX -> Roubaix behind his belt now, he's fresher.

Obviously he won't be able to follow when Pogacar goes, but I don't see Pogacar ride away that easily from everyone and finish solo. So if he's joined by others, and the tempo is gone, MVDP is one of the first ones to come back. He was 3rd at LBL for a reason, and he's in better form and physique now.

The race might have 4500 altitude meters, but the route isn't as difficult as people assume at the moment.
I give MVDP a chance of riding for the podium like in LBL this year where he got dropped by the chasers but group 2 dynamics allowed him to claw his way back then sprint well at the end.

Less than a 0.0.1% chance for me that he contests the final 200 metres in contention for the win against Pogacar.

What if Pogacar loses because the team wasn't commited around him since the start of the race?

roglic being more popular and loved in slovenia than Pogacar.
This sounds like a certain US news broadcast station posing theoretical issues that support an agenda. They follow up with a separate voice noting: "I heard something about". Which makes is self-serving gossip at best.

As always; any good team rider isn't betraying strategy and Roglic has been a Sphinx on these matters historically. It wouldn't serve the team, Tadej or himself to declare anything that will be an actual plan.

It's actually quite simple:

The Slovenian coach approached Roglic and asked, "Are you going to give everything for Pogacar?"

Roglic agreed, knowing that if he didn't, the coach would have just said, "Then *** off."

Facts.

Embarrassment of riches, almost too much, getting Belgium 2021 vibes, expect to tune in with 200k to go and Roglic is there in the early days break alongside Ryan Mullen and Jambaljamts Sainbayar whilst his teammates in the peloton sit there wondering what the *** is going on.
The Remco-sabotage of 2021 resurrects with the Roglic-sabotage of 2024.

Maassen told BT. "He wants to be the best and has to work very hard to get better, and it will be a challenge because if he stays at the same level, he probably won't be able to beat Tadej Pogačar anymore."''

You dont say Maassen, how obvious.

Now factor in Pogacar only getting better and has moore room to grow than Vingegaard while already beeing so ahead. Evenepoel gonne pass Vingegaard too very soon and kinda fast as that gap just closing in too and Evenepoel has more room to grow aswell and areas to build scartch. At least Maassen is realistic.

I guess Roglic have another plans. It would be beautiful if Roglic betrays Pogacar.
Clickbait at its best.

Here is the original question and answer:
If we've learned anything about you in recent years, it's the fact that you never go to races just to put on a starting number. In an interview with Delo, coach Murn said that it is known that Pogačar has announced a move to the rainbow shirt, but that our national team can achieve a top result with both of them. Slovenian fans are already dreaming of gold and silver, how will you agree on roles in the road race within the team? To be honest, it's hard for me to comment on this. Everyone wants to be world champion, it's no secret. How realistic this is for anyone is another matter entirely. This reality will reveal itself during the race, two laps before the end or even in the last lap. These are sweet concerns for Slovenian cycling. If it comes down to who among us will be first and who will be second, I think we will be able to come to an agreement quite quickly.

As if Roglic could do anything. its not exactly science he will just ride away from everyone while noone beeing able to push the watts and follow - if they try they blow up very fast thats jsut what weve seen WHOLE YEAR, Liege, Giro, Tour literally everyone who tries to follow him blow up!

Maassen isn't exactly the brains of Visma, so I would take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Why does Pogacar have more room to grow than Vingegaard? He may be younger, but he's probably been living like a professional athlete for longer. And if either of them has the most room to improve from this year's Tour, surely it's Vingegaard, since he had an absolutely terrible preparation.

Pogi himself has said that he is not 110% focused on cycling, perhaps talking about nutrition, preparation, pressure. It can be deduced that he has a lot of room for improvement but that perhaps putting that pressure on himself could negatively affect him in some way.

Thing is even if they're formally both leaders and 'let the road decide' it's gonna play out that Pogacar is G1 and Roglic is G2.

Problem only arises if Roglic in his role has the role of speculative attacker and Pogacar has to protect Roglic' move. Because that is cycling strategy 101 and it should never apply here, unless specifically Roglic is ahead alone or with some proven non winner like Wilco Kelderman.

There's 2 ways about this.

1. Nearly everyone always says they can still get better
2. Everyone is getting better every year at this point. I don't see a huge reason to expect that to stop

Besides cycling, what other profession Pogacar does in his life? Merchant? mechanic? Electrician? Since he is not 110% focused on cycling.

It's pretty fashionable these days to say "I have a lot of room for improvement, I'm not that serious". I call BS on that. Pogi right now is on at least as "serious" a training programme as Vingegaard. Just because he has a happy-go-lucky image doesn't mean he doesn't train at least as hard. And this year, by all means his programme was simply better because he wasn't in the hospital two months before the Tour.

I think they realized at UAE they needed a change from the previous years. They've made that change, and it's certainly paid off, but any improvements they can still make will be fairly marginal. And actually I think for some reason Visma are kind of overrating Vingegaard's performance in this year's Tour, like he was somehow at his best ever. How is that even possible given the lack of time he had to properly prepare. He may have hit some high numbers but he wasn't consistently at his best. No way.

Remco will never be as good as Vingegaard in the Tour. I bet my house on that (barring career ending crashes)
