Tail lights mounted high on seat post (unsavoury - sorry)

It's a stupid observation, but for whatever reason my mind wandered there so now I can't unsee and I have to share my pain with everyone. Hopefully it will affect a small change?

When a tail light is mounted high on a seat post, it looks like a blast of red from the rider's rear end.

It's taking "don't ride my ass over" to a bit of an extreme to me.

Got reminded by all the seat rail mounted options out there coming to market recently.

I get that mounting it higher on the post is potentially a bit better for visibility.

Again, sorry. I now mount my tail light flush with the top tube height.

when it's dark....how can you see where the tail light is mounted on the Bicycle??

IMHO, all thats required is that you have a very visible red light....constant or flashing or some other "mode" that makes you very obvious from those behind you....I also like the ones mounted in the helmet.
In winter, when riding with my buddies on group rides at night.....we light the whole place up like a Christmas Tree.....very effective :D

Good luck sharing your pain and affecting change ;)

When it's dusk, or when lit up by my headlight.

Anyway, once you see what I mean, it's funny!

I never used a tail light since all my riding was in daylight. However I bought a really nice winter jacket which is mostly black. So I bought a bright tail light and use it during my daylight riding to increase my visibility. It is located about halfway between my top tube and my saddle.

I started to use a tail light and headlight whenever I ride since people started texting. It has made a difference: Drivers pass me with about an extra foot, and right or left hooks happen much less frequently. Even dooring close-calls have been reduced.

I might mount one to my helmet, more people are driving SUVs making my tail light mostly visible only for the 15 feet between cars. I just have to deal with the fact it'll look like an evil cyborg eye on the back of my head :D .
