Tarmac frame repair issues

Recently had my frame repaired after an accident however the fork decal was hit with overspray and it dried thus ruining the decal and leaving a large white blotch on my fork. I have tried toothpaste, scratch remover and clay bar to remove the overspray .....nothing has worked, any suggestions how I can remove the paint? Where ( if needed ) can I find a specialized fork decal for an 09 Tarmac Pro?

Thanks
Jeff.

Just apply the appropriate decal to cover the blemish. :D

I contacted the shop and they stated that every precaution is always taken to eliminate overspray but sometimes it happens. They advised me to use a quality auto polish and it will remover the overspray .....well that didn't work.

By auto polish they were most likely referring to rubbing compound. Is that what you used? Rubbing compound has a slightly gritty feel to it.

You could also try some super fine grit (2000) wet dry sandpaper too. Make sure to use water if you do and use a very, very light touch.

Can you post a photo of the repair.
It may help with advice.

However the Chinese Sticker seems an appropriate response.

Search bike restoration web sites - you can make your own with a computer and printer using decal paper.

Other alternatives:
1 - "Cerapol" - sold for cleaning burnt residue off ceramic cooktops. Recommended by brands like Miele and Bosch for cleaning their glass cooktops it's superfine and should do the job but it may take a bit of rubbing.
2 - "Gumption" kitchen cleaner - same principle as Cerapol and allegedly fit for the same purpose, but it's significantly coarser and has more variety in grain size so I only use it on my stone bench tops. Would get the job done quicker but at more risk of scratching.

Both should be available at any decent supermarket in the cleaning aisle.

My aunt matilda's mustache..If you had a car repaired, painted and there was overspray on the windshield or headlights...what would you do?

'It happens'..was this place a legit repair place of some guy in his garage?

Good point - sounds like inadequate masking during spraying.

I tried scratch remover, tooth paste, clay bar so the only things left would be the kitchen cleaners and wet sanding. I was at the lbs today and they have a custom paint guy who might have a trick or two that he would be willing to try. I would be afraid of sanding thru the layers right into the decals. The pics once posted will tell the story ....

Personal opinion, but I'm with both winkybiker (just ride) and BK (Calfee should fix it if you want it fixed).

I would just ride it but it looks horrible and I'm anal about what the bike looks like. My LBS put the bike back together for me but didnt mention the overspray at the time. I guess they figured it wasn't a big deal. I agree Calfee should have taken better precautions to minimize the impace of the touch up. I have attached a link to the pics I took of it. Let me know what you think.

Looks like you made what was probably a real minor thing into something major by trying to rub it out. What's more important, a structurally sound frame after a repair, or a little overspray from the repaint? Priorities man! It's only a Specialized, not a full custom Cyfac, or anything close.

Ultimately it is lame for Calfee to not mask properly. They wouldn't send one of their own frames out like that. But it's on you for being anal about appearance. That comes with the territory when you worry about stuff that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

YGBSM..they let it leave like that?

I knew there was a reason I dropped Calfee..a perfect example. If they did such a crappy job on paint, don't ya wonder how well they did the repair?

Call Craig!!

Agree with everyone else. That's not a bit of overspray. That's a lame *** paint job. I'd certainly raise a stink with Calfee. At the least they could respray the whole fork (do you really need the decals?)

But hey, bikes are made to be ridden. Getting anal over stuff like will drive you crazy and take away from your enjoyment of riding.

I suppose I should just get over it and ride the bike ....like everyone seems to agree get over being anal about looks are ride it. Still calfee should have taken better precautions so this would not have happened. I certainly would not return a frame to a customer looking like that ....live and learn I guess.

I would like to learn what the damage was and how it was repaired (apart from the overspray).

The repair looks good.
I guess the cost of the repair is why the paint wasn't applied with due care.
To paint that sought of detail would be quite labour intensive which adds cost. It may cost more than the repair itself to paint with that sought of detail.
I suggest you live with it unless you you've got some spare dollars to get it fixed.

There are plenty of companies around that make custom decals for cars.I am sure they could easily copy the specialized.
