...which was to be the prefecture of Vendee and to be called Napoleonville under the great Napoleon Bonaparte. "Napoleon" was removed from the city name during the Bourbon Restoration, only to be named Napoleon-Vendee under the second empire, before getting its current name. Though he has been dead for centuries, Napoleon has never been out of sight.

If we return to todays stage, the biggest drama of all happened in the last 10 kilometers, which was marred by crashes and mechanicals, some of them hurting top favorites' GC standing.

Froome assured interviewers after the stage, that " I'm not injured in any way. There's still a lot of road to cover before we get to Paris." . Some have likened Froome's double attempt to Alberto Contadors two unsuccesful attempts in 2011 and 2015 (both years 1st in Giro and 5th in Tour), and in 2011 Contador was involved in a crash in stage 1, losing 1'20'' to the GC favorites Cadel Evans, Andy and Fränk Schleck, who all ended on the podium in Paris as 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Is Chris Froome's crash and 51 seconds loss to GC favorites Bardet, Fuglsang, Landa et al. a sign of things to come? Of history repeating itself?

We probably won't find out tomorrow, with another flat stage and sprint finish to be expected, but there definitely is some food for thought for the next couple of days..

If you have something to add to this, please share!

Sagan should be the favorite for a stage like this. The only other question is what gc rider will lose more time or even dnf.

He is a reliable 2nd or 3rd place pick, but he just doesn't have the speed to be the one going away into the wind against the sprint field full on. He may beat Gaviria, or Kittel (again) but enough of the sprint field is still faster than Sagan outright.

I think Jancouver means because it's slightly uphill

I don't agree though. The incline is the same as the finish at the Doha worlds and Cavendish was way faster there

Interesting, that if the peloton makes the finish in one piece today, the start order for the TTT Is:

Mitchelton-Scott
Sky
Movistar
Groupama
BMC
EF
UAE
AG2R

Incidentally, do the bonus seconds not count towards the team competition? - Does anyone know?

The results page in here, has 14 teams on the same time..... shouldn't the bonus seconds be counted, so fx QS was 13 seconds in front of those scoring no seconds, by Gaviria winning both sprints?

If bonus seconds do indeed count, I could see both the bonus sprint and (obviously) the finish being fought over harder today, because teams like Astana and Bahrain, can gain a late TTT start time, if Cort or Colbrelli manages to snatch a couple of bonus seconds.

If bonus seconds count Quickstep should have a bunch of those with winning the stage today and Garviria will be up there for the stage win tomorrow as well. That start spot for the TTT is not going to do Movistar any favors.

I think QS is already guaranteed to start last, even if Gaviria gets no seconds tomorrow.... as long as they have 4 in the same time as the winner.... at best, someone can equal them, so they will still be first (and last in the TTT).

- this is all based on bonus seconds counting towards team standings... that is not confirmed :)

TIME BONUSES
Time bonuses are awarded at the end of every
mass-start stage (i.e. no time bonuses on offer
in individual and team time trials). The first three
riders get 10, 6 and 4 seconds, respectively.
3, 2 and 1 seconds shall be awarded to the first
three riders at the Bonus Point in each of the first
nine stages (except for the stage 3 team time trial).
This shall have no effect on the points classification

I am pretty sure they do not count for the team classification. I have never seen it count on any of the stuff nor in any of the tour games do bonus seconds count for team classification.

Why wouldn't it, if it counts towards individual times?

Then a rider has 2 different times registered.....

I would think because it says for the classification that is the finishing time on the stage of the first 3 riders that finished the stage. That doesn't cause a rider to have 2 different times registered at all.

Let's say you have your 3 riders on the first stage, 1 wins the stage in 4h 1m 5s and gets the 10 bonus seconds, second rider finishes 4h 2m 5s, and third rider finished 4h 3m 5s. So for the team classification it combines those 3 riders finishing time making it a team classification time of 12h 6m and 15s. The rider that won first is awarded his 10" bonus. They still finished the stage in 4h 1m 5s but than was awarded free 10".

I hope that makes sense. Like I said, I am pretty sure bonus seconds do not count because I have never seen it in any results of races nor has it counted in any of the cycling games I've played.
