Interesting documentary on TdF. Clears up a few stuff.

  • Domoulin was in really bad shape in the beginning, more than they let the public know
  • Domoulin pulling in front was just a spur of the moment dumb mistake, admits it
  • they knew Pogacar was freeloading so they tried to break him on Col de la Loze with Kuss. But even Roglic with Kuss helping could only do 15 seconds. Just too strong to drop imho.
  • they didn't care about Richie Porte, they wanted to have 4 in front + Wout taking sprint :D (Bahrain was mad about them pulling apparently)
  • the TT yellow jersey custom fitting interesting to see
  • "you need to find 4%"

I'm wondering whether the story that Pogacar was just too strong, no matter what they did, is the full truth. It's possible, but it's also possible that this a narrative they have built for themselves to put the mistakes they made in the shadows.

When Bennett is talking to one of their DS (I don't remember whom), Bennett points out that they took Pogacar too lightly on Peyresourde and the DS acknowledges that but also admits that it's easy to see that in hindsight and that they should have tried exploiting Pogacar's lack of a team butbhe just had not seen this outcome of the TT coming at all.

After downgrading from Bianchi to Cervelo, they've now downgraded from Mercedes to Skoda :D

Dumoulin to ride De Ronde. No Ardennes

Renowned TT specialist and GT winner, with no noteworthy classic results, especially not on cobbles, who badly needs a race where he can shine so to get his confidence back, targeting Strade Bianche, MSR, E3 and Ronde... on a team with Wout van Aert. What can possibly go wrong o_O

I unironically think Dumoulin riding De Ronde is more exciting than Amstel and FW.

They have yet to announce the GT schedule, but I'm assuming it's Roglic+Dumoulin ot the Tour again. I'd mostly think Dumoulin should focus on the March stage races, then he could mix in a few one day races because yolo and because helping Van Aert out a bit.
