Roglic is the strongest gc rider in the world. Its a shame that Jumbo abandoned him on stage 5 to work for Vingegaard. That's my opinion.

As for WVA, he is a bit of a liability and I'm not sure what he is doing half of the time. But if there is no Vingegaard in the race and Jumbo are all in for Roglic, Van Aert's antics are less of an issue. On stage 5 when he had to work, he worked and made a difference.

If the Grand depart is not in Denmark, Vingegaard goes to Giro and gets the chance to prove he can won a GT. Jumbo protect roglic on the Tour and he doesn't crash on stage 5. He beats pogacar on stage 7 and as Pogacar team collapses, Roglic becomes race favourite.

Of course, if they win with Vingegaard, then my comments are a bit redundant. But they have made things unnecessarily difficult for themselves as a team

Roglic is 1 week stage race specialist who isn't too shabby at Grand Tours.
Vingegaard is a GT specialist who isn't too shabby at 1 week stage races.
Van Aert is a classics and stagehunting specialist.

Logical choice to focus on the latter 2 in the most important Grand Tour of the year. Roglic got and will get his chances in PN, the Dauphiné and Basque.

GT specialist with 0 GT wins?

Smiling.

Jumbo made a small mess up by waiting for Roglic, but otherwise totally perfectly ridden (I would have liked a try on the top of Galibier with Wout up the road, but cant have it all).

Its what I have been saying all along - Vingegaard is a better climber than Roglic (and potentially Pogacar - which he proved today), and all these small tactical 'errors' or whatever you wanna call them don't really matter. Vingegaard was stronger, and he showed it today.

Its a game of minutes on this route (which we all knew), not seconds.

Chapaeu Vinge, chapeau Rogla, Kruijswijk, Benoot, Laporte, Wout. Perfect, just perfect day of teamwork apart from that little (well, huge) tactical error of waiting for Roglic for WHATEVER reason. But Roglic was so important today, I think Vingegaard still wins, but the 1-2 on Galibier was so super huge and then again later up the climb when Poga kinda panicked and went full gas to the top. Vingegaard in the slipstream more or less the whole day, while Pogi spent more energy.

Now, lets hope they don't mess this up like Rasmussen in 2007.

IM SO GLAD.

Even in hindsight, this is such a delusional comment that gets 2 likes by other "*** JUMBO, ALL FOR ROGLIC-extremists." Seriously, protect Roglic so he doesnt crash? It was a complete freak accident. And also, how did it go last year? No amount of team can make you magically not crash, holy moly.

Hey man I was clearly wrong about a couple of things. I put too much emphasis on what ifs and underestimated Vingegaard. Sorry about that

I don't understand why you always are so angry about these things. You are just a fan watching on the sofa like everyone else. Regards.

Because stating obnoxious things such as "Jumbo should only work for Roglic so he doesnt crash" is straight up trolling on your part.

1. Vingegaard went into the Tour most likely stronger than Roglic in the high mountains, especially in the Alps. We all saw the route, we watch the races, we analyze. We know Vingegaard is more of a pure climber, than Roglic who is removed 2 years away from his peak and doesnt have the same high mountain, multi climbing talent as Vingegaard. Roglic is more of an all-rounder much like Pogacar, punchy stuff, extremely good time trialist, the complete package minus the extra gear in the high mountains.

2. Complaining about a crash, which we all saw, and coming to the conclusion that if only the team protected him from that crash is... yeah. Just wrong. You know that, so I have no clue about how you can write such things unless youre willingly delusional or straight up trolling. Complain all you want that the whole team didn't ride for Roglic and helped him back (which is obviously extremely questionable as well), but avoiding the crash with more team support?

Good on them for giving it a crack. Their DS has taken some stick for the 'greed' and aggression but maybe those are the traits you need as a DS to defeat who was probably the strongest rider in the race. I'll take TJV chaos over the Sky train any day. We should now see a TJV train to nurse Vingegaard to Paris but they have earnt the right to ride conservatively after today's blockbuster. Will be fascinating to see what Pogacar tries against the TJV train.

Just because you keep on repeating this about Roglic being supposedly 2 years past his peak, doesn't make it true.

His Vuelta 2021 performance was by far his most dominant & best output. That was preceded by his destruction of the Olympics ITT.

The truth is probably much more mundane & involves a somewhat less than ideal preparation this season (knee injury in April) & a teammate who has clearly stepped up massively, aka Vingegaard, i.e. punishing any bad moment or incident for Roglic because the team would immediately back Jonas & switch their full support behind him to the detriment of Roglic. That's always the reality of a team with two GC leaders.

Roglic himself was done in this TdF after stage 5. We all knew that.

To me the big takeaway is that however much people on the like to bag on Jumbo-Visma for their strategy when it comes to teambuilding they really knocked it out of the park.

Roglic lost over 11 minutes today and is out of the race for the GC, yet he was smiling and laughing with Kuss when he came over the finish line because Vingegaard won the stage and took a commanding lead. And van Aert seemed like he was happier about the win then Vingegaard himself.

We all watch the same big races, dont we? Isn't it obvious to you that Roglic has regressed since 2020? Which version of Roglic would you rather have?
That must mean Eddy was a failure because he didn't when every GT he raced? Judge the career when they retire. If a rider was "past his peak" every time he was dropped there would be zero racers. Everyone loses, everyone gets dropped.
