Team Sponsors - whatch'a got?

Of all the sponsors out there with their logos on the team jerseys, which products of those sponsors have you bought due to that association with cycling?

I've just replaced a T-mobile phone with a HTC, and my other half now has a Garmin hrm for her running...

I bought a Garmin unit for hiking, though here in Europe they've still got the market sewn up so it wasn't like I had much of a choice. Nice to think anyway that my purchase might keep a few guys supplied with rice cakes for a bit.

I bought a Garmin GPS-HRT. Can't say it was because they sponsored a cycling team though since I heard nice things about it, but me recognizing the name might have helped me remember that.

I would think the only stuff which really has an effect is cheap stuff like phone gps, sunglasses etc.

Then the kit sponsors have a huge effect on what people buy,

The only product I tried because of the association thing was when I remodeled my house a few years ago I used Mapei grout to finish the tiles in my kitchen and bathrooms.

Can't say that I've bought anything because of pro sponsorship, just because they've helped local amature teams in the area, or past teams of mine. Just had the opportunity to upgrade my cell phone, an HTC unit was available, but I picked something else because of Cavendish's attitude.

Since I started riding again I've been making admiring glances at all the Specialized bikes & gear. If only I had some spare cash!

i stalled continuously on the HTC for the same reason, but settled for another rider like Mick Rogers - i had already chosen the HTC via some techy mates raving about the android OS anyway...

I bought a Garmin not long after the company started sponsoring Slipstream, and once I learned about it's features I wanted one. I hadn't heard of them until then.

I just spent far too much money re-doing half of my house in Quick Step laminate. I ended up choosing them because they make the best quality product in my price range, but I first began looking into them because of cycling, I must admit...

Ive a Garmin sat nav! But i bought that because it was cheaaaaaaaap.

Me too but mine was really cheap...free (as in a B'day present). Its the 305 which is great.

Not sure I have ever bought anything that was advertised on a cycling jersey or bike consciously. However, who knows what subliminal evil is at work in the marketing departments of these sponsors.

Now where would I go for a low rent, poor quality stereo system...whats that name again? begins with an R....I think????

I once went to take some money out of an ATM in Paris, I purposely waited until I found a Credit Agricole ATM.

You win the barrel scraping contest, Craig. That's just plain daft. :)

Mind you, whilst laughing at that I just realised that I used to only buy Panasonic electrical goods. I almost choked on my chortles.

not really, I did the same with a Caisse atm - saw one and just had to make a withdrawl...

I was never a fan of the team, but I couldn't avoid using the US Postal service.
And I once threw up in a Ceramica Flaminia toilet.

Well don't know if it counts but I have worked at or beside several of them:
Rabobank
SaxoBank
Sungard

and by accident I have 2 team bikes:
1999 US Postal trek ***bought in May 1999 BEFORE the infamous Tour***
2009 Felt Garmin AR Team ***won it on the Cyclingnews online competition in 2008***

I went to Radio Shack to get a new phone specifically because they sponsored a pro team, but they didn't have any good phones in stock so I ended up buying it at a Sprint store (HTC phone only because of the features, Cav had nothing to do with it). I also own a Garmin, but there really isn't any other option if you want a cycling-specific GPS, so I can't really credit JV for that sale either... Ah! Just thought of something: My watch is a Tag Heuer that I bought after reading Bob Roll's story about losing/finding his in his book "Bobke", so chalk one sale up to pro team sponsorship (even if it was 30 years ago :p).

Was it pure coincidental that you threw up in said toilet? :p:eek:

When I lived in Germany for a while, my phone automatically updated its network to T-Mobile. When visiting France it automatically switches to Bouygues Télécom. When I was staying in Lyon the nearest banks were opposite each other, Crédit Agricole and Caisse d'Epargne. I always went to Caisse. I have drunk Gerolsteiner water whilst living in Germany but that wasn't because of the team.

How could you be the ultimate cycling fan/sponsor whore?

Boiler by Saunier Duval?
Insurance from Liberty Seguros?
Doors, panels and structural parts of your home by Lampre and LA Aluminios?
Floors by Quick Step?
Participating in both the French and Belgian lotteries?
Multiple bank accounts in multiple countries, with Rabo, Caisse, Landbouwkrediet, Caja Rural?
Drive a Peugeot? Or a Subaru?
HTC phone on Euskaltel/Cofidis/Bouygues/T-Mobile?
The likes of Garmin, BMC, Cervélo etc are easy enough, being cycling goods.
Send mail with DHL?
PSK Whirlpool kitchen appliance?
Ceramica Panaria or Flaminia toilet?
Drink Farnese Vini?
Obtain your fuel from Liquigas?
Dairy products from Nordmilch, particularly Milram?
Watch Sky TV?

I'm pretty we have had a Whirlpool appliance at some point, but I could be wrong. And yes I've watched Sky TV.
