They got some air time becuase Magnus was doing the TOQ and the mansell lads got a mention, according to magnus & mr harmon they are talented anyone heard or raced with them??

According to Magnus they are in the team on merit

PS will be great to see if they race in the prmeier calendar this year on eurosport.

They're doing the Perfs this weekend, so we'll soon see how they are going.

Great of Big Nige Mansell to step in with some cash when an agreed sponsor withdrew at the last minute.

However you will find they are riding under British racing licences and are affiliated to the British system.

Thats hardly the point is it ;) The team name is still what it is, and their natioanlity is still what it is, hence, it will always be ironic

whats ironic? I dont get it.

The New Zealand national all black rugby side is full of Fijans, Tongans, Samoans but there's nothing particularly ironic about it. I get the feeling something is getting lost in translation somewhere here.

Irony is when the actual meaning contradicts the literal meaning.

So I think in this case, UK Youth is ironic. As the literal meaning would be the youth of the UK, and having Swedes contradicts that.

Bingo.

And sublimit, if theyre playing for NZ that means they have some sort of New Zealand connection. The Swedes on the UK Youth team are simply Swedes riding for a British team, ergo theres a difference.

The irony for team UK Youth would be if they raced in Sweden and won against a Swedish select team full of Swedes. ;)

The fact they have Swedes riding for them is not ironic in my eyes. It all depends on what they achieve.

Racing and beating Swedes wouldn't make it any more ironic at all.

The literal making of the team name, UK Youth, is young riders from the UK. In reality they have people from other countries. That is irony.

It would possibly be more ironic if they were beaten by UK youth riders of another team.

If the Swedes in the team raced and beat the Swedish select team, that would be ironic, but not because the team is called UK Youth, but because the Swedish Select team (ie. What is meant to be the team of best Swedes going around) was beaten by Swedes.

Yes it is somewhat ironic.

So a team called UK Youth not being exclusively made up of youth from the UK is different from the literal interpretation. Obviously it would be a lot more ironic if they weren't particularly young either. Or they were all non-UK nationals.
