Him fading on the PdBF ITT last year, is also reason to believe his performance today might very well have been a lot less exceptional in case he had just finished a hard-fought TDF.

I think this was the most impressive ITT performance i've ever seen him deliver.
Results-wise, and considering the level of competition, I would agree. On guts, though, I would put his stage 5 TT ride in this year's TDF at the top.

...so in the end it WAS the 46 year old ex-doper that was the bigger American chance of a medal than the widely-regarded joint favourite. Maybe we're all overestimating her recovery from the knee injury, or maybe the hills were too much since she's been focusing primarily on the track so far this season, but we're so used to those American TT mayflies that it just seemed inevitable Chloe would medal.
Thank goodness.

That was one of the best TT's in recent memory and not just because it gave up one of the most popular podiums in terms of riders. Roglic is an example of how to deal with setbacks, he never complains or bemoans bad luck but just bounces back again stronger. Ironically I think he became an even more popular rider in the minds of cycling fans following the heartbreak of LPDBF in the way he handled the disappointment in the aftermath.

A rider may have 3 or 4 chances at most to win Olympic Gold so that was a huge victory for Roglic today and well deserved.

I thought it was a fantastic TT course, which gave the TT specialists a real chance to show what they can do. The commentators were saying things like "it's not a very technical course," but I'd argue it takes pretty high-level TT skills to stay in the skis, maintain aero position, AND keep laying the power down, through some of those up-down-left-right-chicane-dip flowing passages the way Roglic, Dumoulin, Asgreen etc were doing.

It was a phenomenal ride by Roglic, and then 2nd to 7th were all within 47 seconds of each other.

I know Urán is kind of ninja, but he finished in the top-10 in the ORR, and was probably the only one trading pulls with WvA (also attacked with Woods and alone with 5Km to go).

Urán also emptied himself and cracked in TdF in a less than perfect preparation.

Other riders who went deep in RR, with not so good results in the OTT, were Bettiol, McNulty and probably Schachmann and Lutsenko
Bettiol's 11th place wasn't bad, I expected a top 10, so he was just a bit worse than expected.

Yeah in hindgsight it looked like the others were suffering from their heavy schedule.

The part where Asgreen caught back up with him was interesting that maybe Roglic put in a lot less effort in the downhills and maybe that was a great decision.
Yes, looks as if Roglic was indeed riding to his strength by easing up on the downhills and hammering the climbs. Good tactic here, and great result. Well-deserved win. Chapeau.

Congratulations to Primož Roglič, Tom Dumoulin and Rohan Dennis for winning Olympic medal in TT.

Ban TTT!

It was an exciting TT race worthy of calling itself a race for an Olympic medal. My favourite cyclist won the gold Olympic medal in TT and i will remember this day for the rest of my life. Don't tell anybody but tears were involved. I will repeat that. Tears of joy and happiness were involved! If there was ever a plausible scenario that could make up for the Tour 2021 disappointment this was it. I knew the route is perfect for Roglič still he won the race in grand style.

It was nice to see happy Dumoulin again.

Team Slovenia didn't disappoint. Two Olympic medals in cycling hence thank you the Slovenian national team, Hauptman, personnel taking good care of health and other related issues, Tokyo for giving us Olympic games in such times, TJV, UAE ... I am grateful for your hard work and contribution.

Well said, I agree. It was also a super strong field ~ there is so much emerging tt talent, alongside the proven champions.

As dominating as Roglic was, Van Vleuten's ride was even more impressive to me. To put a minute on the field on a much shorter course after going as deep as she did in the road race was amazing. I mean, the course was only 22k! I'm glad she was able to put the drama around the road race behind her and get a gold medal.

Moster got sent home.
Well, it is a scandel that he seemed to be up for debate if he was to stay or go home.

This would have already been inexcusable during a regular cycling event but these are the Olympics. This goes against the spirit and the overarching purpose of the games.

Hard to judge a person if you don't know them personally or don't have enough info. If he is really a racist then he deserved it. If he isn't a racist then the internet mob won and it shouldn't have won.

As the internet mob is worst than a non-racist person accused of being a racist.
If you read the articles about it you will find out. No excuse possible in this case, he made his mindset clear with his words.

I read two articles on this subject. One on CN and one in local media. Neither one confirmed or denied to me if he is a racist or not. Hence i can just as easily assume it was some inner team trash talk and as such show me a team that doesn't do that.

This is the Olympics. Totally against the spirit with a rich Euro nation slagging off athletes from Africa.

I don't know. Without some inner team trash talk. What's the point. AFAIK Olympics were originally made to cease the war for the duration of the event. Trash talk likely still fueled the spirit though.

If he is a racist then he deserved it. If it was some trash talk and he is married to an African woman, having a wonderful relationship, then i don't really care.

P.S. At least he didn't say camel tow on a woman race. Then he would likely be hanged on the spot.

He said something racist. It doesn't really matter whether you or he think he's not "a racist". What he said is not ok and should not been deemed tolerable.

But then again it could end up being an inappropriate stereotype type sort of remark and somebody misused the word racist in the first place. For example if some African team would made an inner team trash talk remark. Lets follow that goat or that milk cow.

Is this really a racist remark?

Anyway. I don't really care all that much. My point is and was if he is a racist he deserved it. If he is not a racist then i don't really care all that much about some inner team trash talk.

Again, then that trash talk is racist and not ok. Regardless of him being an actual racist or not.
