The 2026 Montreal World Championship routes

So the first route announcement video is out. There's no altimetry profile yet, from what I understand that will be shown during or after the Kigali WC.

Apparentely the circuit is very similar to the GP Montreal, but there overall amount of laps will be lower, and the section before the circuit will be mostly flat, so it may end up being easier than the Montreal GP despite being an hour+ longer.

I had hoped for some more originality on the circuit, this one all the riders knows already to good how to race it. The extra flat maybe is not a bad thing against a dominating Pogacar, now it will have to be raced a bit harder for him to get rid of everyone. First climb seems to difficult anyway for a MvdP.

I think it's borderline for a good MvdP. If the race shakes out easier than expected I think it's clearly doable for him.

There's a lot of intangibles to the Montreal circuit than make it easier, like the fact that most of the circuit is sweeping false flat downhills, which are always hard to keep an advantage on. It's why the Montjuic circuit is such a closed race in most years despite it being pretty steep.

To me it looks considerably easier than 2024.

How would it compare to the Glasgow circuit? I'm assuming more climbing?

It's still a race tailormade for Pogacar.

For the record, RVV has less than 2200 of vertical meters. This is more about how those vertical meters are distributed in the race.
GP Quebec has more vertical meters than RVV but RVV is flat in the first half of the race. This is why this WC is still tailormade for Pogacar. All difficulties are in the last 60-100 km

Just as an aside, it seems like the total vertical meters at RVV just doesn't capture the tough climbing in that race because of the cobbles, and specifically because there doesn't seem to be an easy way to quantify how difficult the Oude Kwaremont is?
