The Bio-Passport As A Propaganda Tool

The article is wonky, but has some good information confirming a few critical inferences.

-UCI has weaponized (real word??) the doping "watch list." WADA it seems passes the data wholesale. This isn't news for some.

-Pat's doping watch list is arbitrary. Just one consequence is favored riders aren't issued positives.

informing the managers that, thanks to the bio-passport, he held precise information on each team's riders and then brandishing "the spectre of public revelations that would cause damage."

-Pat has some control over WADA's budget, being a source of revenue for WADA. Imagine a scenario where WADA publishes anonymous statistics like " of a population of 400 UCI associated cyclists, 50 have abnormal values. Ask the UCI for more information" IF WADA published anonymous statistics there would be greatly increase transparency. Pat ceases to fund WADA shortly thereafter.

I think it is not hard to come to the conclusion that there are many more riders that at minimum have "irregular values", with only Pat picking the unlucky as he sees fit.

Tip of the iceberg.

Verburggen and McQuaid have been stepped up the threats in the last few weeks targeting teams and DS' that they feel are the enemy. It will backfire, they look like fools.

That's a tough row to hoe when you're complicit. Even tougher if you can be implicated. Bring it on!

In some cases they are going after some who have been neither. They use the threats as a tool to get their way. Based on past results it will fail and they will look even more foolish

Playing the heavy on innocent parties? Cummon, that doesn't sound like the UCI we've all come to know and love.

I guess even they wouldn't be daft enough to bring the axe down on their own coop of golden geese. Mind you, their level of 'daftness' may yet to be fully explored...
