With all the rumors regarding GreenEdge (A. Yates, Dunbar, Hirt, Zana) where does that budget increasement come from? New sponsorship?

Previously posted that my information is that BEX has new funding coming through - I believe it may actually be Aussie funding - Bear in mind that the Giant sponsorship is big for a cycling brand, while Alu Alu the Saudi sponsor is tipping in good dollars - It should also be noted that when Matthews came on board in 2021, the team still had the budget to keep A.Yates but has sat on the money - In saying that there is a chance that Matthews will not be renewed.

All sounds good, as long as they are not relegated.

That aside, I would not renew Bling unless he delivers some wins in short order. Unless his contract is much smaller than I think it is.
 
It's no disaster if they come 19th - They'll get an invite to all GT's and WT races
this is not quite correct, those things are unrelated. The WT relegation system is is on a three-year base, the other on one.

So 19th could be enough of course, but it's not a given. Total Energies is ahead by a good margin at the moment, and for the 2nd spot it would depend on who comes 20th, and if the team scored more or less points than BEX this year
 
In the original plans of a couple of years ago relegated WT teams would get 1 year of auto invitation as well. Not sure if that still applies.
now that you say it, I remember reading sth like that back then as well, but it's not in the rules. In contrary, for the "best UCI ProTeams" wildcard ranking "teams registered as UCI ProTeam or UCI WorldTeam during the previous season are taken into consideration", so relegated teams need to earn their spot as well

It will be very disappointing for BEX if Groves leaves, seeing that he struggled in his first two years with injury/illness/crashes - The team showed lots of faith in renewing his contract in 2022 - I find it surprising because any team can carry two sprinters - It will continue a theme of BEX losing good Aussie talent - Having t
 
Thing with UAE is they always sign great riders but those signings rarely fit well on their strategy.

Wellens is always in Top Shape for early season and is also a good bet for late of season classics as well, but he has no business in a mountain train (not that good of a climber and he is not consistent at all).

He fits better on a lesser team more oriented to one day success and no outright GC winner- Intermarché would be a great fit, as well as many other belgium or french teams.
 
I agree with Roku.

The last thing UAE needs is another hilly classics specialist. They already have a shitload of those. But they don't have as strong cobbled classics team as well as elite support riders for Pogacar and other climbers, especially the flat/rouleur or versatile type. To me, Wellens doesn't seem like money best spent for them.

For Wellens it doesn't seem great either. UAE is so loaded that he is even at risk of not making it to their Ardennes or other big races team if he doesn't shine in preparation races. Maybe it's a good choice for him if he's looking for a lower pressure high paycheck contract towards the end of his career but for cycling it will be a shame that he doesn't ride for one of the lesser teams with more freedom and is likely going to be one of many at his own team instead.

To me, UAE has always seemed like a bunch of randomly signed strong riders and most promising talents, out of which Pogacar has worked out, rather than smartly spent money to optimise their strengths.

I've been seeing this since they had the money, they didn't really seem to have clear ideas of how to plan a season with their transfers, I don't know why anyone got surprised with their tactical eccentrics in many races. They're just lucky to stumble upon a super reliable superstar to build squads around so they can have some kind of direction.

The young prospects that they sign are good signings, but with big names it's just signing all you can get...

If (but only if) they have the inside running on signing Blake Quick it's not a big deal.
