Who is this Beppe Conti guy anyway. He... doesn't seem to know much, does he?
An old Italian cycling journalist/cycling historian. Some of his takes are really nationalistic (Landa should have waited for Aru on both the Mortirolo and Finestre in 2015, RCS should make routes for Italian gc riders) and many of his opinions on race design are just wrong (him talking about how great a Mtf on the Mortirolo would be).

He also seems to rather frequently make some... interesting... transfer "announcements".

When you hear/read him you should take in account that half of what he says are figment of his immagination but when he gets something from his sources he can tell something with great advance, still you need to wait when the events happen to realize which were the true rumors because he trows everything in at the same time.

Anyway the problem is that RAI instead of using him at what he does well (he's one of the best when it comes to cycling history, for sure the best in Italy) turned him into a sort of transfer guru with tendence to sound ridicoulus.

Hmm... He must have really hated racing in EU. There's barely a US domestic scene anymore unless you count gravel. And no, I don't think crits will ever be more than a niche.

Yeah, I thought the headline put an optimistic twist to a transfer that most us would consider is “dropping down” to US continental level after lack of success in Europe.

Sounds like he would fit right in with the current crowd in the U.S. Congress ;)
